Because at first the game had to be bought because it was only the Save the World mode.

Then Battle Royale came and that's when the game became free to play in the case of the BR, Save the World i believe you still need to buy

Probably the same logic I had when buying a "physical" version of Wolfenstein: Youngblood (which is a redeem code only), which is that it's still a collectible and a physical representation of a digital-only game (on Switch at least). Admittedly, games I'm really into that are digital-only in the NTSC-U region, I'll sometimes seek out physically if applicable from other regions, like Okami HD, Taiko no Tatsujin (both Drum Master and Rhythmic Adventure Pack), etc.

Eitherway,

Do the words

"Back up copy" mean anything?

In the world of computers, we always say this:

"Back up, back up, back up"

Thus incase of disaster, you have a back up to fall on.

This thing as well. Disc only contains an outdated Steam installer, lol.
