Hacking What is the best microSD to go with?

Hej all,

I've seen a lot of nice help on this forum so I thought I would just come here with me question.
On my GBA I always used a Flash2Advance kit obtained in Singapore.
Now that I have a DSLite I want to be able to test new games out aswell.
Therefor am I willing to buy a new card device, and chosen M3's Simply DS.
( Don't argue about R4 please. I know M3 updates slower, but I am willing to wait little longer on updates if I get better looks for it )

Unless I find a cheaper reseller, I'll be obtaining my m3 from Divineo SE.
But now I have the problem of finding a good memmory to plug into it.

I've been thinking about a Sandisk Ultra II 1gb microSD.
Will this do the trick? Will you advice me to get a 2gb?

I hope someone could help me pick the best microSD.

This should be in the NDS section. There are many threads about this: but if you are choose any slot1 card- generally a Kingston 1GB (made in Japan, though there are Taiwanese ones) is the best choice. They're cheap as hell too.

1GB should be enough for most things.

I read about that, yes. However, I thought the Sandisk Ultra might have better performance on speed.
It will still stay under 300sek so I don't think about prices to much.
Also, how will I know for sure I'm not ordering a Taiwanese one. This is not in the specs at any online order company.

The Kingston is probably the top in performance - I am quite sure it tops the Ultra II in most aspects.

Not sure about prices in Europe, but if you order online you can get one cheap. A commonly used store is www.dealextreme.com

As I thought to have seen it passed the Castlevenia test and was compatible with the Simply DS.

Nice, but it seems I've done little more research then you.
I'm going to get a M3, so that page is of no use. Also, I have no paypal or creditcard, rendering that site useless.

I also am wondering which one is better. I ordered a kingston 2gb from newegg for 20 then 4 for the shipping so 24 $
I got a supercard ds one from Echostore/Gameyeeeah (becuase of the compatibility) and they shipped me 2

There should be.
msdn and other reviews tell us about them.
If anyone who has a good tester and a SD Ultra II card could test it (OSW?).
I think there are enough Kingston users who might be able to submit their measurements aswell.

On a side note, the other review I linked to shows that Sandisc is superior to Kingston on everything, except big file writing... I bet they have found things against that by now.

That kingston is Made in Taiwan and is slower than the 1Gig version. So that isn't accurate for thiz..

well... I bought my kingston 1 GB due to all the talk about that being the right one.. and it hasn't failed me once..

Dane-Elec 1GB MicroSD are also the same Toshiba cards as the Kingston Japan ones, and they seem to be a lot easier/cheaper to get hold of in Europe.. plus you have the guarantee that you'll always get a Toshiba one, AFAIK Dane-Elec don't use any other manufacturer for their MicroSD. just a heads up there.

I quickly went through the thread.. (I didn't actually follow the discussion)

So heres my opinion.
Get the ultra2. ONLY if you WANT to spare the money. I have an ultra2, several generic sandisk microsd's and several kingston microsd's.

I can say for myself that compared to the ultra2, kingston is slow as sh*t. Also the generic sandisk cards were faster than the kingston. This is all based on personal experience, NOT on specs.

At the moment, I got a UltraII.
I think it works like a charm, hasn't failed me on the games I play yet.
Fast writing, even trough the reader that comes with the m3 Simply.
Maybe if I ever need an other one I'd get a Kingston, just to be able to compare them.
