What could this be??

Today i was in my back yard picking up raked leaves and putting them in bags and i founs this sort of ant that i had never seen before... I picked it up to look at it and i saw that it was thin black and had long straight pinchers. I put a blade of grass between the pinchers and when it snapped them shut, all i heard was a pretty loud click... There were a few of them and they seemed to live in colonies (some dont...) so what i ask is what kind of ant is this??

Im starting to think that because i sprayed some with ant killer and it was fine with and continued on with its life while my other test (red carpenter ants) spazzed out...

Be careful though, some ants, like RIFA, will bite you and you'll need medical attention from it.
