What are some of the things that bother you the most about school? The teachers? The curriculum? The more detailed, the better.

For me, I hate the political structure of school systems. That and those instructors who think teaching critical thinking means just assigning a paper to write.

Also, this is my 2000th post, which isn't anything special, but I'm happy about it. I try and not shitpost, so I'd like to think it's a larger portion of quality posting.

The curriculum. How is knowing how convection currents cause earthquakes going to help me become a better software developer. All these classes they push as standard even though their all not necessary. Even some of my teachers have admitted that some classes they had to take in high school are absolutely useless for they career they have now. I feel like schools should shift over to the curriculum conforming to the child and not the child conforming to the curriculum.

The fact that while I was forced to go to school for over 13 years I really didn't pick up any useful skills like doing taxes, basic car, home maintenance, budgeting etc. Nope just learn how to find the square root of X.

On that note after grade school and especially in HS you should be allowed to take the classes you want (you can to a certain degree; you want to take Spanish or German). I'm thinking most if not all of your classes. I also hatted that they push college so much. Some people (like myself are not fit for the college experience and would have done better if trade schools were spoken about more)

The fact that much of goes forgotten after you graduate. So, unless you pursue post secondary education, or use everything in your everyday life, some of it is Moot. Like advanced mathematics, and some secondary languages. Also that they conveniently leave out most life skills unless you're lucky enough to have an extra curriculum course that teaches those things.

For me the teachers are fine but the students are definitely not the best.

Things differ when you've finished school for almost a decade.
You'll be looking back on that time with a different view then now.
Assuming you're still in school that is.

I would have to agree with @DinohScene on teachers being pretty shit. Don't take this as me talking down to you but once you are older and you've had the time to do education on your own and you see how worthless these teachers were. You are going to feel a bit ripped off. In fact I enjoyed the time with my classmates a lot more now then I did in the moment.

What is about teachers you find so shitty? Is it just you don't seem to learn anything? They're apathetic and just seem to go through the motions?

A lot of it is they get paid shit, their hands are tied by administration that has no background in education, and they're expected to work 80 hours a week for 40 hours a week crap pay. Makes them a lot less motivated to give a shit. But on the other hand, sometimes they don't know the material very well, or just don't know how to teach well. Or both. It's hard to track down the real problem.

I guess it'd be simpler to ask: are there any teachers you do like? and what do they do differently?

I enjoy school. I didn't start until I was 13 though, and I went to a private school with really good teachers.

The thing I hated most was busy work. I love to learn - but boring work meant only to distract and occupy my time was upsetting.

Also - teachers getting on soap boxes was never welcome. Okay Ms. Kirchner Harry Potter is demonic - please just teach me about history now.

I have a few family members in education and they tell me the horror stories of their crap pay, shit bosses and mandatory classes they have to take in order to keep their jobs. I do get that and I would write it up to more of a failing of the entire educational system then JUST the teachers.

A lot of them from my experiences are in fact apathetic and just seem to go through the motions. When I had issues understanding the material and I asked for help they would just tell me to look over the book again or brush me off.

As for the teachers I did like? They were full of life (cheesy I know) they were willing to work with me in class or after school to help me with my homework or were able to explain things in a way that I was able to understand. My math teacher in HS was freaking awesome because of this.

@osaka35

What about yourself? Did you enjoy your time in school? What parts did you like/didn't like?

I wish our education system promoted attitudes and engagement like your math teacher had. We need some major reformation, from top to bottom. We have the research and data to create a better system, it's just a matter of convincing people we actually need education. We're still stuck in creating assembly line thinking, rather than creating cross-disciplinary, deeper, community thinking. it's a hard change because it requires understanding.

I think administration, especially at certain levels, are forced to see school as a Return on Investment situation. They keep getting less and less money every year from the government because those in congress want to end publicly funded education...for some reason. So they've got to "cut the fat" and maximize profits. Efficiency is good, but they're whittling away at the meat now. Which is the death knell for any education that gets public funding.

I dunno, I'm rambling now. But it does suck so hard though.

I can't stand sometimes the girls are wearing not enough clothes so you have to constantly run to the bathroom and then you get a call from your mom saying that your dad is sick but even that doesn't make the excitement subside.

That's not the girl's problem to worry about, though. It's the struggle and responsibility human males have to learn to overcome. We catch a lot of shit for it, too, and there's very little support or education on how to handle it. But really, you can't blame a girl for having an attractive body or wearing clothes anywhere on the range from naked to disguise. Her body, her choice, and it has nothing to do with how it makes a guy feel. Us males have to be in complete control of our sex drive or else it'll be our ruin, regardless of what someone we're attracted to does. A better sex ed would help a loooot in this regard. We need the tools to manage our overwhelming urges and body responses.

This also applies to same-sex attractions and related bits, but ya know. we need better sex education.

I had to tell an IT teacher that his laptop had a fan to expel heat from the heatsink.
He didn't knew that...

I think I said enough.

They teach useless shit, my professor one time said out of his own mouth: "Most of the stuff you learn in this class will be useless." I find that a serious issue.
