Ok....have a WD USB 1tb drive sent to me with 2 partitions.
465gb / 465gb - with a total of 554 games.

When I copy them to a 1tb WD drive through WBFS manager - it looks like they all go from both partitions as I copy both partitions.

But then when I re-read the new drive it only show 500 of the 554 games.
Seems to be plenty of available space....
When I look through the titles it cuts off at the "T" titles.

WBFS uses one byte per game in the first sector of the disc. If you are using 512 byte sectors, then you can only get around 500 games (some of the bytes are used are used for other things).
It's not a very scalable file system, you'd be better off with FAT32 or NTFS.

@Wiimm, personally I am a fat32 advocate, but out of curiosity (and I'm sure others are wondering the same thing), which backup managers (for PC) and which usb loaders (for wii) support these other values (ie. which programs/apps support 500+ games on a single wbfs partition?).

I'm assuming configurable usb loader supports it, and probably usb loader gx

and I am hoping wii backup manager and wii game manager support it on the PC also, but I am not sure.

Any information you may be willing to share will be much appreciated... if you yourself are unsure, then sorry for wasting your time.

thx

I'm not interested in 500+ games, I own only 10% of them. So I have made an academic analysis and I know that the well known libwbfs have no problems with other sector sizes.

Someone told me that the GX loader will also support it. I know that my wwt (and the other tools of the wwt package and WiiJManager as WWT-GUI too) support any other hdd sector size. Thats's all.

If you have an WBFS disc then try: wwt analyse -a
This command is readonly and make geometry calculations with hdd sector size 512, 1024, 2048 and 4096 for all found partitions.

Im currently using Config loader v56, I have a simple drive 1tb hard drive formatted to fat32 with just about 530 wii games showing up to be playable.

Im also using wiibackup manager 0.2.1 to install my games to the hard drive

the wbfs file system is limited to 500 titles... Doesn't matter how big of a hd you use...

That's definitely wrong. Read the posts above.

Well the Standerd is yes 500 games . (Stable)
Iv tryed over 500 on a Few loaders and nothing worked with them would not even load the drive that was Formated with a Diffrent Sector count .

i think the main reason this has not become a Standerd in most loaders is that No Windows Based alows u to pick your formating settings if something like this was made then i think loaders would think about other settings . Since then the Everyday user could format there HDD to the Said Size ..

Thanks for the App Wiimm

There really is no more reason to be using WBFS, two of the most popular and best loaders support FAT32.

Fat32 - Splits Files .

its kinda like saying why we need loaders when we have Sneek+DI

There is pros and cons about every Format used .. I my self perfer WBFS.

FAT32 only splits files bigger than 4gig and how many wii games are bigger than that? Not really that many.

Hmm or NTFS right? That works too, and you don't have to worry about files being over 4 gigs, and you can use the drive for any other files you want, as long as you are using windows. FYI NTFS is the usual format for hard drives, portable hard drives etc.

I kno this is a very old post, but to anyone that is still listening on this topic ...
!! the WFBS 500 game limit is no more !!
USB Loader GX has just had a BETA update, r1060
Dimok has added the option to enable multiple partitions to be viewed at the same time in the same list.
This means you can split your HDD into 2 (or more) WFBS partitions.
Each WFBS partition can still only hold a maximum of 500, but having multiple partitions the amount of total titles listed is potentially endless.

Oh, c'mon! You're not going to revive each and every thread about that 500 game limit, are you? (you already necrobumped this one...it should be sufficient for whatever point you want to make)

A month ago I would have agreed with you. Now, as it turns out, WBFS is the only filesystem that supports the new 3tb Seagate, which has 4k sector size. Since the number of games you can store is based on sector size, the drive can hold up to 4084 games.

This drive works with wii backup manager, USB loader GX and CGFUSB Loader so far that I've tested.

If you want to see more on the topic you can check http://gbatemp.net/t276377-3-tb-seagate-works

For those with less than a thousand games and drives smaller than 3tb, you should really use FAT32 or NTFS

wikipedia list of wii gamesAs of 31 December 2010, this list had 968 games.

In other words: everyone should stick to FAT32 or NTFS for now.
