Hello, I have a weird problem with a wavebird that it bought used (receiver included), it's a little bit hard to explain.. Basically the Left Stick sometimes wants to work, sometimes it doesn't. But it's not like the Stick mechanism itself, because the stick feels right, it has nice travel, resistance and all that stuff, it's like something in the controller doesn't register the movement of the stick well. When I play Zelda:WW, to move link forward, I obviously have to move the stick upwards, right? I move it all the way up but sometimes it doesn't register, and Link moves like at 10-20%, or doesn't move at all, and sometimes Link moves forward 100% like normal. So what could be the problem? The stick itself? The potentiometers inside it? What could I do to fix it? Maybe cleaning it will do the trick? I'm also thinking about buying another wavebird but without receiver, in my country those sell for like 4-5$. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Ps:If I wrote something wrong, forgive me, I'm from LatAm :P

I'd get a triwing screwdriver and open it up and see if there is still something wrong with it. If you cant find anything small, such as dust built up or damaged plastic pieces, then just get the new controller. Good luck!

Well I tried to open it up and clean the stick box a little but it wasn't that effective, I'll try to replace the entire stick box on the wavebird. I've seen multiple tutorials on youtube on how to do it but they're all wired controller tutorials, and in the wavebird I can't take off the back black part that has the batteries pins. Does anyone know how to take it off?

I would say either the Analog, or the soldering points.

Yes, I was going to try that but I don't know how to remove the black back plastic piece to access the soldering points..

Nope there isn't, it feels like it's a part of the motherboard but in the wired version it can be separated. I need to know how to do it in this situation to access the soldering points.

The black part is held by the solder on the reverse side of the board AFAIR

Oh thanks! Now I know what I need to do, but now want to ask.. Should I replace the stick with a nunchuck one? or cannibalize another wired gc controller? (I think the nunchuck is better because of newer parts).. I really don't want to interchange the C-stick and the main stick on the wavebird because I also use the C-stick in some fps like Metroid :P

Nunchuck would work.

@BakerMan, Any idea what happened? I hope that your brother's doing good.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.

He couldn't eat until after his MRI, when he had a bomb pop.

What matters now is that he's doing alright.
