No. Nintendo patched everything. Well, if there is anything, it's not public. And nobody knows when/if it will ever come out, since we don't have a crystal ball. There was a long, long, LONG time when anything interesting could be done after fw 4.5, so you'll probably have to wait a while.

If your 3DS is updated past 9.2, sell it and get one running 9.2 or lower firmware.

Sure there is work on it but even if it exists right now it probably will not be released for a long time.

I know this is hard to accept if you are on 9.2+ but releasing such an exploit right now or anytime soon would be viewed as irresponsible by a large segment of the community.

There are plenty of 9.2 systems on the market for those who truly want an exploitable FW. The resale value of a 3DS is very good so those that want one can easily sell theirs and buy an exploitable one for a relatively modest premium.

There will be support at some point but if the last gateway exploit release to support up to the 9x firmwares is anything to go by, you could be waiting for a long ass time.

If something exists and is known in general to people of a given field (and the 3ds exists and is known by many) then there are people that are working on exploiting and corrupting things in various ways. What skill level, what interest level and what level of financial investment will vary wildly. Such a thing is also tempered by the availability and ease of performing exploits as it stands -- if there are 50000 exploitable devices out there then a batch of 200 ones might at best attract someone curious but practically speaking it would be a lot of effort for no gain.

As it stands there are plenty of exploitable 3ds out there of all types/models, and the 3ds is not a terribly attractive device like the GBA and DS were (we have loads of homebrew/user code capable portable devices with a lot more power as well, not to mention the commercial library is not great for the 3ds). Other than smea's ninjihax 2.0 there has been no group, flash cart dev or hacker, much less one of any skill, announce or display anything. On the other hand I would not announce anything (see the endless cretins that gateway and smea had to put up with for each of their hacks respectively) until I had it working so behind the scenes there could be things happening. By similar token Nintendo have kind of done something half useful about the security so it is probably not a matter of just tweak an existing exploit and carry on with life, though if not mentioning hacking work to avoid cretins is a good idea then not broadcasting the security holes you are going to use in a device which can be and frequently is updated is even wiser. smea's work is unlikely to be all that useful for piracy type purposes either.

So as was mentioned we are rather lacking on the crystal ball front and last time we tried other methods of future prediction we got a bunch of religious weirdos wandering around to bore us all to tears so we are not doing that again.

I would place a substantial amount of money on a gamble that there is at least one individual or hacking cell that is happily installing unsigned .CIA files on a 9.8 N3DS without any extra hardware right now.

Why don't they share it? Look at all the flaming gbatemp users gave neimod, yellows8, smealum, karl3ds devs, gateway team and so on and so forth.

I'm surprised our devs are still giving back to this scene full of cry babies

It seems to me that there is always some kind of exploit. I waited for what felt like forever before a new exploit for the Xbox 360 came out, and it eventually did. It really just depends on how motivated the hackers are to find the exploit and release it to the users. So while there may be an exploit out there, it just needs to be discovered and released to the world.

Also, the earlier the developers give away their next exploit, the earlier Nintendo will patch it. So it's best to keep a lid on the ongoing efforts until something is ready for release. Until then, don't update your system.

If I remember right the arm11 exploit used up to 9.2 got patched at well... 9.2, but the arm9 wasn't patched until 9.4.

we have regionFOUR running off ninjhax up to 9.8 (it was initially up to 9.7, this agreat example of burning an exploit), since it has limited capability is probably a new arm9 exploit. So if they find an arm11 we will have new hacks and stuff. The reason most people don't release working hacks for a while is they wait for Nintendo to patch it on their own so that they don't patch the exploit quickly, so that it isn't burnedburned (as in exposing it to Nintendo, thus making them patch it immediately... This is burning an exploit). Remember that long wait from 4.5 to 9.4? They had an exploit. It worked. They didn't release details so Nintendo wouldn't stop it. At 9.2 when Nintendo did patched the arm11 exploit they said don't update past 9.2, they don't have an arm11 exploit anymore, it won't work. At 9.4 arm9 got patched and they released the exploit.
