Hacking vwii semi brick

I did something dumb and messed up my vwii. I was using MMM and install ios36-64-3608
to use any title deleteter. I went to ATD and It said something about semi bricked, but I went ahead and deleted
what wiiware wads I wanted to in installed channels and I messed up and deleted homebrew.
I reset the wii u went to wiimode and started super smash bros brawl to reinstall hbc again and the screen was black and nothing happen. I think it was the ios36-64-3608 that did it. I install it on ios36 and said it was a newer ios. Please help!
Rule #1 of vWii: NEVER EVER INSTALL A WAD NOT MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR VWII
Every guide tells you this. How did you manage to miss that warning?
I realize that other people already mentioned this but I just wanted to emphasize it.

But, as mentioned before, as long as you have Lego Indy (the first one) or another exploitable game that doesn't use IOS36 you are good to go. You can run any homebrew with it except things that require cIOS. Even certain wad managers will work 100% (ones that have the vWii specific modification applied so they can install system titles, I think there is a mod of YAWMM that does that), you will still need a cIOS to install VC/WiiWare games however, but it would work to fix your broken IOS36.

In the future, remember not to install any IOS files on vWii that are not confirmed to work on vWii. The same goes for homebrew channel forwarders, these will not brick your vWii but it's a good idea to avoid them unless they are made specifically for vWii and they won't work on your Wii U unless they are. Other WAD channels should be fine.

Well if the above post is correct indiana pwns and return of the jodi use ios 33 so yes the game and exploit should load. the hackmii installer needs an unpatched official ios to be able to install the homebrew channel if none are found you will get a no vulnerable ios error, the ios that the hackmii installer uses are ios 31,33,34,35,36 and 58 (correct me if im wrong) so ios58 is patched for usb2.0 support because you had previously installed the homebrew channel, ios 36 is screwed and cant be used. That leaves you with ios 31,33,34,35 all unpatched official ios. so yes it should work you are one of the lucky ones. You should post your results let us know if it works.
IOS58 already has USB 2.0 support. HBC does not touch IOSes. HBC will prefer IOS58 and that is the best IOS for it to use since it will speed up HDD access across all homebrew.
FYI HBC would never ever modify any IOS. Team Twiizers frown upon modified IOSes which is why HBC has that upside down easter egg in the first place.

Hi guys

Newcomer here too, having a similar but slightly different problem relating to vWii IOS 36. Now, massive apologies in advance, because I know I'm going to be horrendously chewed out for this (essentially, I'm a dumbass. Sorry). Basically, I was following a couple of Wii-specific guides to get USB Loader GX on vWii. I found little to no guidance for vWii on the internet at that point so tried my best (with caution) to see if the Wii methods would work on vWii. This involved, in a fit of pure stupidity, accidentally running a cIOS installer and hanging my console. I'm lucky in that the damage only seems to be the apparent 'uninstallation' of IOS 36, as I'm unable to load Smash Bros. Brawl from disc (and assumedly Mario Kart Wii too).

I tried a number of times to try and reinstall the IOS using DOP-Mii WiiBrew Edition (I probably shouldn't be doing that either), but kept getting errors, -1017 IIRC, prompting me to use an IOS that already came prepared with the Trucha bug patched in. Using DOP-Mii as a psuedo-diagnostics tool, I noticed that IOS 36 was labelled 'Not Installed' on the system and System Menu had no version or region assignment (I didn't go so far as to try and install a new System Menu on it though, don't worry).

Then I discovered this place, with its awesome information and sage advice. Oh Boy.

The best/worst part is, I wasn't able to back up the vWii NAND before the accidental cIOS screw-up, so I'm unsure whether trying to install an unpatched IOS36 is even going to 'work' if the vWii version differs from that available on Wii or NUS. It's worth pointing out that everything else about vWii seems to be working fine - Virtual Console games are in a 4:3 resolution even though the vWii system menu is widescreen (although I think that's always been like that hasn't it? Not used Wii VC in a while) - so it's just a case of putting an IOS36 WAD back in my vWii.
  • Is there a way to find out what particular version of ISO36 vWii comes packaged with?
  • Could I use any IOS36 vWii WAD as the restoration process, or does it have to be a WAD from my region (I have a UK/European Wii U)?
  • Could I use YAWMM_EN to try and install the relevant ISO36 without further issues?
  • worm28 mentioned that 'Ios36-64-v3864 wad size is 1.78 mb' - in another topic there is a link to an IOS36-64-v3864 WAD via googling "sendspace kl6o78" - is this the same file? Can I use this for a restoration?
  • I'm unable to fully dump my vWii's NAND content in its current (semi-broken) state (if only so I can revert should something even worse happen in future), using FS Toolbox detailed here (http://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-install-cios-on-vwii-backup-nand-and-keys.339890/) - the process hangs after successfully patching ahbprot (the first line of text on screen) and my Wii Remote is unable to connect to the console. I've read that this might be common and to use MMM instead (detailed here - http://gbatemp.net/threads/full-vwii-softmod.339899/) so hopefully I've not irreversibly voided the ability to make NAND backups. The link to the older version of FS Toolbox (http://www.sendspace.com/file/7sh3u1) appears to be dead though, is there anywhere else that will host this file?
Apologies for the many questions (and for screwing up, obviously) - figure at this point it's way, way better to be safe than (even more) sorry. :)

you can try using YAWMM-DE (english translation) http://www.hacksden.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=793&d=1369548542 to install IOS36-64-v3864.wad (yes, the one from Sendspace, I have tested that wad personally and it works, and the link is still valid ;))

if that fails, try this,

try using this to install a patched IOS36 as ios236 by putting IOS36-64-v3864.wad in the root of the SD card. as in directly on the SD card, not in a folder.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/d8v42uid72yo9kc/IOS236_Installer_MOD_v7_for_vWii_dmm.zip
once you get ios236 installed, use a wad manager (that can choose what ios to use) to install the ios36 wad. have the wad manager use ios236 for the install. the reason is that the ios236 is ios36 with patches to get around error -1017 thus allowing you to install ios36.

DO NOT TRY INSTALLING ANY IOS USING DOP-MII. the reason i mention this is that installing IOS236 will allow dop-mii to work if you select ios236 bypassing error -1017, which means that any IOS install will work rather than fail.

it is safe to use DOP-MII to install the Internet Channel and the Photo Channel tho.

Thanks so much driverdis. Managed to re-install the IOS and now it's working fine. :) Backed up NAND and vWii keys as well from the restore, and ready to go. Excited to see what can be done with the homebrew channel now. :)

First rule of Wii/vWii hacking; never delete anything. No reason to really, so don't do it.

I think I have a other reason why my vwii say it's semi bricked. When I first started hacking I try to install some cIOSes. Some how I uninstall ios 14 (or 15 can't remember) and 41 and I think I installed the wii ioses. Could that be a problem? Because I recall it saying semi bricked before I mess up ios 36. Also should I worry about it? Will future wii u update bricked my vwii, should I uninstall the ioses, Is there vwii ios 14 or 15 and 41 to download (also I can't get them from my vwii nand because I did this before I made it) I don't know what to do. Are those ioses important? Some help would be great.

First off dont uninstall anything you could brick your vwii. You do know that when the wii u updates it checkes if your ios are there and working if it detects a wii ios it will reinstall the correct vwii ios.

I know that now. I was a noob back then and I'am still learning now. So should I wait for a wii u update or look for a vwii ios 14,15 and 41 to download? Also what do ios 14,15 and 41 do?

IT'S FIXED I finally got lego star wars and my vwii IOS36 along with my other mess up IOSes are installed back and everything works again thanks to all of you.
