Hardware Vita repair worries

So, my vita has had a cracked inner LCD for several years, but I've hung on to it for some reason. Seeing it have an actual hacking scene made me interested in fixing it. That said, lot of stuff I don't know yet. Is it best to send it to Sony? How much would it be? Would they update the consoles firmware?

Don't send it to Sony. It'll come back on fw 3.65. Just buy a replacement LCD on eBay. Swapping everything is very easy to do. There's even YouTube videos on how to do it

That includes the inner LCD, right? Sorry if its a dumb question but I've read that that's the only part that can't be replaced.

The replacement screens come with the LCD and touch screen together. All you have to do is unplug a few cables, unscrew a few screws and you'll be good to swap to the new LCD
