There have been a few viruses that use an automatic shutdown method, which if you change the clock back, however many years, it will increase the time to shutdown.
In this time, I suggest doing a complete anti-virus check with maybe Kaspersky or AVG and hope it sorts out the problem.

Oh right, another method. However, this method requires an expired warranty. Take out your harddisk, turn it into an external harddisk, use another xp computer to fix it. If you still have any warranty left, call your computer brand's repairman. All in all, good luck fixing your computer.

it seen to be in the boot files....go buy windows vista and install it or go to a pc shop to fix it for you it utterly fucked if its like that

you shouldn't need a converter......I would just put it into the IDE/SATA cable, think it'll work that way too.

eh, well of course you would need a converter, or else how are you going to turn it into an external HD? anyway, plugging it into another pc's ide/sata cable would work as well, as the other pc would recognize it as a secondary HD, anyway...

Alright, thanks for your help. I found out after some research that on my model of comp. you can do a system restore by pressing F11. oh well, bye bye files, and does anyone know how to block these stupid popups? I am getting like whords of them in groups of 3 by Zedo and InternetSpeedMoniter. a little help on that would be appreciated

Do any people you know have CD burners?
Get onto their computers
Download the Ubuntu Live ISO (or Knoppix, or any other respectable Linux distro)
Use IMGBurn to put it on a CD
Take the CD to your house
Put it in your computer
Do diagnostic checks

Computer (while on Ubuntu) - Copy everything that's important onto an external hard drive, you can get them cheap
RE-INSTALL XP

Hope I helped... or if I didn't, ask beve for one of his uber custom firmwarez to help you out.
