Hacking vga cable + backup loader

Ok so ive sucessfully used the backup loader like many others. what i was wondering is ive got a few games that dont work on my wii combined with my vga cable. purely because my monitor wont accept a display res lower than 640x480. Is there any way to force the wii to use 640x480. i looked at wiifrii but obviously thats for changing the region and although it allows you to specify the display mode i dont need that part.

basicaly all i need to know is can i force my wii to use its highest res because my monitor wont handle anything lower.
