psst. I don't mind British people knocking Game, on the fact that they've probably been there and have an experience on which to base their opinion. People from the USA (by forum location at least), have probably not been to a UK game, and have no right to pass judgement on it. If they have been to a UK game, I can only presume it was while on holiday, on which case they need to get a life and not visit video game stores while on holiday.

The DS is designed to be a hand held, not a console. So you can play it standing on your head, lying down etc.... Take it back and if they give you more bullshit just say to them that your going to contact nintendo. They will soon replace it.

The vertical thing is a bunch of BS. There are plenty of games that are meant to be played with the unit put vertical. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Brain Age are 2 games that are done this way. He was trying to pull a fast one in a shoddy attempt to not honor a warranty.

The maker of the post means the top screen folded as far as it can go back, so that the screens are parallel when viewed from the side.

yes it is supposed to go back that far they only gave him a lame excuse because they didnt want to return it.

UK govt investigates GameStation acquisition
The Office of Fair Trading "looking into" the deal, deciding whether or not to refer to the Competition Commission.

The two biggest games retailers in the UK became one at the beginning of May when Game purchased GameStation for £74 million (approx $147 million). The deal brought the total number of shops operated by one company in the UK to 627, and 1,047 worldwide.

However, the UK's consumer and competition authority, the Office of Fair Trading, a government department that seeks to "promote and protect consumer interests," is now looking into the deal. If the OFT finds that the acquisition will "create competition issues," it could be referred to the Competition Commission (formerly known as the Monopolies and Mergers Commission). A deadline of June 14 has been set for invitations to comment.

The Office of Fair Trading was set up by statute in 1973, and enforces consumer protection and consumer laws within the UK. One of its main aims is to ensure "fair and healthy" competition across different sectors of the marketplace.

A spokesperson for the OFT pointed out that the organisation looked into all deals of this kind. He told GameSpot, "Pretty much every merger that goes through we look into for competition issues. We do this as a matter of course." He added that it was too early for the department to comment on this specific case except to say, "What happens next is we will be looking into the electronic gaming industry to see if the deal has any competition issues, and then we will either let it go ahead or refer accordingly."

A spokesperson for Game gave GameSpot the following statement: "As expected, we have notified our acquisition of GameStation to the OFT for normal regulatory review. This review will take about two months and we will be co-operating fully with the OFT's process."

I hate it when stores try to stifle competition. Ever noticed why Currys, PC World and Dixons have the same prices? And why their online stores looks strangely similar (thought they are currently in a stage of differentiation).

Its because they are all owned by the Dixons Group. You may go to a large shopping centre, and check for the best price, but little do many consumers know that they are being coerced into paying higher prices because of the price collusion that takes place.

I dont think this takeover should be that worrying, since both stores obviously cater towards a different audience. Any move by GAME to reduce competition by turning Gamestation into a generic GAME, would just increase the competition from smaller independent businesses.

It's the supermarkets you need to worry about, not GAME. Supermarkets run the games off as loss-leaders. That is something GAME can compete with, relying on their purchasing power from the distributors to get prices where they can still compete with supermarkets and remain profitable. Indie's are pretty much screwed by supermarkets, can't compete with loss leaders. Their only hope is pre-owned, but with game and gamestation usually able to provide higher trade-in prices, they are screwed there as well.
