Hacking Using external HDD for Wup

You need to be more specific about your HDD. Western Digital has produced more then one 500GB HDD model.
Beside that there're so many HDD models that it would be a surprising coincident if someone else used the same model, reads this thread and has a account here.

If the HD has its own power plug with it you'll be fine. If it doesn't you absolutely will need a Y cable.
Edit: I just checked the model. Yes you need a Y cable.
