cISO works for gamecube too?
with Wii games, cISO format worked only with hermes, not d2x so it's not a very common format with Wii games.
In the branch I linked, yes, CISO is supported. (Not merged to the main repository yet.) CISO could be used with d2x for Wii games via fraglists if you wanted to implement it.

I'm having some issues getting Black Ops to load. Both show a black screen on startup.

Do I need to do anything special with these games? I am using vWii so not willing to blindly install cIOS without knowing what I am doing. I should have the correct ones installed anyway, I think. I have tried forcing the language to English (which usually fixes this issue).

Japanese Wii U, Revision 1260 using IOS250 (Rev 2010) + AHB (d2x_v10beta53-alt-vWii base57).

I don't think it works with beta53-alt. You can try installing d2x_v10beta52-vWii base57 in another slot if you don't want to overwrite 250 and see if that works.

Thanks. I'm trying to be careful not to install IOSes to the wrong place and break something. Could I install that to, say, slot 252? What would be a good empty slot?

Should be fine. Just don't use anything below 200 and you're good. It's generally only WADs with a banner that can brick the menu. You could just replace your IOS250 with the beta52 one if you want and reinstall beta53 if it doesn't help. Beta53 supports more than one USB port but it has some compatibility problems with some titles.

You can install cIOS in any slot above 200.

By convention we reserved these slots for these use :

0-199 : Official Nintendo slots
200+ : homebrew, sorted like that :
202 : DVDX (not used anymore)
220-229 (the "20" range) : Hermes IOS
236 : patched version or IOS36, adding NAND access, and Trucha bug (signature check patch)
249 : default slot for lot of homebrew using cIOS (USBLoaders, Triiforce, Mighty channel, WAD manager, etc.)
250 : used to be a backup (clone) of 249.
254 : Bootmii IOS
256 : BC (official, even if above 200)
257 : MIOS (official, or custom, there's only one slot)

All other slots are free to use, but it's also common to use slot around 249 for Waninkoko and d2x cIOS :
A good range to choose : 240-251
If you install in slot 201 or 233, it works, but it's just strange place to pick because nobody did it.
But try to limit unnecessary used slots, just replace the one you don't need anymore.

Users (and softmod guides) are usually installing in these slots :
249 : default for USBLoaders, d2x based on IOS56.
250 : d2x based on IOS57. slightly slower USB read speed, but best compatibility.
251 : mostly used on vWii, d2x based on IOS58. some games might require a base58, like games with USB2.0 accessories.

Thanks for this. It looks like my setup is using 250 (based on IOS57) as default instead of 249. Is this normal?

It there a specific cIOS that is known to work with Black Ops? I know GreyWolf suggested trying beta52, but looking for confirmation first.

Call of duty require base57, so you are fine.
I don't know if call of duty has issue with r53, but some games work only with r52 (just dance for example). Maybe more games are affected.
That's why I don't like softmod guide telling users to use "latest possible version", r53 is not better because it has a higher number, it's a different compatibility and should be used if needed, not by default.

r52 should be the default.

On Wii, I even recommend v8 instead of v10.

It still doesn't work so I can only assume that it's another bad rip. Strange because this is the second I've tried, but evidently the cIOS isn't the problem. Black screens on bootup are not uncommon when trying to use western games on Japanese consoles, but the problem is usually overcome by forcing language (Mario Galaxy, for example).

As an aside, my cIOS are all r53, sounds like I should install r52 instead.

ahhh
Call of duty USA doesn't work on JP console.
I don't know why, but like you said maybe the language issue.

I think there is an option in USBLoaderGX to patch that issue.
at least, it was there few years ago, I don't remember if we removed it or if it's still there.
something like "region import".

edit: patch country string.
It's still working and patching the dol correctly.

@Cyan last night yet again I found out some Neo Geo games crash on my EmuNAND when used with NEEK, setting said games to partial made them work, I wonder if this is related to the fact I installed some VC games recently and deleted some of them that I didn't like, probably there's some sort of a bug with either the wad manager feature or deleting a game from EmuNAND, not sure, because last time I installed games I got similar results, if you're interested I'll try to do more testing when I get some time.

if it's related to VC games you deleted/installed recently, it should be fixed by reinstalling that neogeo game to get a clean version on your emuNAND.
I don't think there's an issue with the wad maanger, but I can't say that 100% as there's always possibility of a bug or a specific game issues (like games with bad headers which could be seen as Korean while they are not, messing the EmuNAND).

If you have the time to test, it would require :
1. get that neogeo working
2. add or delete something
3. try that neogeo again
4. redo step2 until it stop working and not which game you added/removed last.

What's strange is that it works with partial, but not neek, so it's something affecting a file not used by Partial, (it could be a IOS or a shared content). did you try FULL?

@sj33 :
did you test the "patch country string" option?

I've used the search on this thread but i couldn't find anything particular about this issue:

I'm on vWii with usb loader GX booting VC and WiiWare through the emunand(forgot if thats the correct name) options in the settings.
However when I exit the game it always boots me back to the WiiU menu, even when I set "Return To" to another channel.
If I turn it off it just gives me a black screen and nothing is happening.
Is there no way that I can at least stay in Wii mode if staying in the USBGX channel doesnt work?

I think you need the vWii forwarder installed for ReturnTo otherwise it just resets the console.

thank you for the reply.
I have it installed on my vWii already. Do I need to install it on the emunand as well?

No, emunand should be able to return. Is it the standard emunand run through a cIOS or are you using NEEK? The latter requires the neek2o channel be installed in the dumped NAND folder if you want WW/VC games to return to the real NAND after exiting them.

That's an interesting suggestion, will try that when I get some time, I'll try to do more testing when I have some time.

What's strange is when I tested Last Blade 2 on NEEK (the game that had the issue a while ago when I reported it) and it works fine in NEEK but then when I test Real 'Bout Fatal Fury Special (when I was to play it) that's the game that gives me the error message when played in NEEK (it didn't do that before) but it works fine when set to Partial, I didn't think to test with Full though, I should do that and report back.

would it be possible to have neek2o be installed automatically when creating EmuNAND by USB-Loader GX? I think this would solve a lot of headaches.
