Switch 2 release for 007 First Light gets pushed back again, now set to launch March 2027

The latest game from IO Interactive, 007 First Light launched earlier this year to some pretty positive reception. Originally slated to release on PC, Xbox Series, PS5, and Switch 2, the latter release got pushed back to a Summer 2026 window to allow the team more time to polish the experience. Today IO have released a statement essentially saying they need more time still, with that date again pushed back to March 2027. You can find their full statement below:

IO Interactive said:
Today we would like to provide an update on the Nintendo Switch 2 release of 007 First Light.

We know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond's reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm. To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.

We were thrilled by the positive feedback on 007 First Light at gamescom, and it's a great sign of the progress being made across the whole game as we head toward launch. The same demo will be playable at Tokyo Game Show this week, so please join us there if you would like a hands-on experience. We will share further updates as soon as we are ready. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.

The game's Switch 2 demo was well-received at gamescom last month, giving fans hope that the final release will be one worth picking up.

Given that the new Switch 2 already has more exclusives than the six year old PS5, there's no reason to own anything but a PC and a Switch 2.

As for no one caring, they'll a few million to those who don't own a $2K PC and/or those who want to play it portably and know what a shit show 007 is on the old Steam Deck.

So what if it is delayed? Lots of games are delayed, such as GTA6. And Cyberpunk 2077 should have been delayed. What matters is how it is once it is released. If it is like most ports to Switch 2, it will be surprisingly good on the go, which is all anyone is asking for.

The Steam Deck cannot run AAA games as well as Switch 2. Everyone, including Digital Foundary, can tell you that. There's a reason there's already five times more Switch 2's out there than Steam Decks. And Nintendo is outselling them 50 to one this summer. The Steam Deck is dead.

What kind of a 🤡 compares a handheld to a $4K PC? The Switch is the best selling console of all-time. Criticizing it just makes you look like an idiot. The Switch 2, which runs AAA games like Cyberpunk 2077 better than a Steam Deck and yet costs less and has more exclusives than PS5, has sold 25 million as the fastest selling console ever and will easily surpass the Switch in sales. Critizing it make you look like an idiot.

I know all you Sony fanboys are butthurt by all the things Sony has done to you lately, but trying to take it out on Nintendo, and using the delay of a game that is not published by Nintendo, is pretty pathetic. And exactly what we've come to expect from Sony fanboys.

Since the S2 won't be hacked, we won't be playing any of those games on our PCs. Nintendo has already won this generation.
Just like the last one.
The base Rog Ally is now a better value than steamDeck that can still run AAA titles such as this because it's Windows powered.

Windows has little to do with it. Outside rootkit infested multiplayer games, SteamOS will run pretty much anything np. Shit, you can install it on Ally and will get much better battery life.

Ally just has better hardware in there.

Value wise rog ally is better $600 for a 1080p 120hz better ips display vs $800 for OLED SteamDeck. Rog Ally is powered by windows allowing you to easily install steam titles and other such as epic no major tinkering required.

I wasn't making a value proposition. I am simply correcting your mistake regarding "Windows powered" part. Ally running Windows doesn't make it do anything special. Better hardware does.

Which one is more cost/effective really depends on a region and availability. Considering their current price where I live, I would just get 2nd hand Switch for handheld gaming instead. I could find OLEDs in good condition for 200 euros or so. I saw LCD models for as low as 100 euros. Now that is a hard to beat value proposition.

Anyway, alongside "Steam" titles you can install stuff from Epic Games Store also without any issue or 'tinkering'. You just install Heroic Games Launcher and log into Epic Games account. Pretty much same as you would on Windows, but you swap EGS Launcher with Heroic (tho I would recommend using Heroic on Windows also).

Biggest issue for playing on Linux really is Nvidia drivers (if we are considering desktops) and rootkits kernel level anticheats. Outside those, you will experience little trouble. Certainly no more than on Windows.

Well Microsoft isn't going to release another handheld running steamos when they own windows lol.

Clearly. Tho what is on a device you buy is entirely up to you and not their business. You can easily install CachyOS or Bazzite versions for handhelds and basically get SteamOS experience. Or SteamOS itself.

Nothing really stops you from doing that. Hell, same applies to Steam Deck. You can install Windows on it, with little trouble. Which is what is nice about PC handhelds over Switch 1 or Switch 2. You have a freedom to choose, with little consequence and friction in doing so.

Yeah which is my point a few years ago I'd be on the SteamDeck (q1 purchaser) bandwagon but rog ally delivers just as good these days with a better screen than steam decks base lcd. Most of these handhelds main goal is to play games so I keep fanfearing minimal.

Yea, that's fine. I just took issue with the inaccuracy regarding Windows over SteamOS. Nothing more.

I was stating rog ally was powered by windows because it's main arch is based from x86 architecture unless they redevelopmed the entire back end for it which I doubt.
x86 is not that relevant for OS itself. Pretty much every Linux distribution is also made for x86_64. Steam Deck is also using x86_64.

Quite a lot of um. Switch hate in this thread.
Don't care fer this 007 game, so whatever, but yeesh.

Graphics aren't everything, and tbh Switch is what started the hybrid on-the-go and at-home thing so whatever.

True, among the current gen consoles, Switch 2 is certainly the most interesting one, by far.

Switch, however is not the best selling console of all time. Not officially anyway. Sony somehow always finds a few million sales of PS2, every time Switch comes close. I am sure they will find another 5 million before long again.

I don't really see why do you think Switch 2 will reach or even surpass Switch 1 in sales. Considering the 'global situation', pricing of games and prices of consoles themselves and people not exactly having cash to burn, that is not likely.

There is no relation between Sony being an absolute fuckup and people being annoyed that games are being delayed on Switch. That is silly on your part. People can be frustrated by both, with no relation to one another, perfectly fine.

Every console will eventually be holed, claiming otherwise is dumb. Saying that Nintendo is 'winning' this gen is.....strange. They are not really competing with either Microsoft or Sony and weren't doing that for a long time. They don't need to. They are doing just fine, without console war nonsense.
Switch 2 has sold almost 23.68 million and PS5 is already over 95 million...that's why I don't reply to his comments, he just likes to argue and is a Nintendo delusional fanboy.

Nobody cares, already got the definitive version on PC.

This is why it's important to own all platforms.
I'd say you only really need a PC and a Switch 2, maybe a Steam Deck or nice emulation handheld (OLED) at most. That said, I'm guilty of collecting far more than I need.

Guess that's true from my understanding SteamDeck made custom x86 arch based from windows to work with steam installs aka Proton.
I am not really following what you are trying to say. CPU architectures are not made with software in mind. Software is tailored to suit the hardware, not the other way around. SteamDeck's APU is nothing really special. As for Proton, it's doing translation of API calls that Windows makes and has things like DXVK and VKD3D bundled in, to translate DirectX to Vulkan.

He certainly is.........overzealous in his defense of Nintendo. Tho, I don't really agree with your comparison either. Switch 2 only had a year so far. PS5 had 6 and it sure had a really fortunate start. Pandemic made it a very early success, as it did for all of gaming. It's too early to say how successful Switch 2 will be. I doubt it will approach the success of Switch 1, if nothing else, due to the AI craze, that can't pop soon enough.

He is correct that Nintendo is much more productive than Sony was and most certainly will remain more productive. Even if Sony wasn't a complete shitshow atm, the games they are trying to make and the audience they cultivated, requires them to spend absurd amounts of money and time to develop the games they 'need'. It will only get more difficult for them as time goes on, unless they pivot their strategy. However, I don't really get why is he so aggressive in his conduct.
