Is that all? Or is it faster? For the most part, I only care about which one is faster than the others...
Speed is equal for all file-systems (fat/wbfs/ntfs) with the same cios.

I want to make an HDD for my brother, I'm still wondering between fat32 or ntfs what would be easier for him. maybe NTFS with simple copy/past full ISO file will be easier.

I didn't follow closely the last improvement, and I didn't read it on this thread (or miss it), maybe it was said on config loader thread :
Does NTFS accept both .wbfs and .iso files using GX ?
or does GX is made to read .wbfs if it loads from FAT32, and .iso only if it loads from NTFS ?

If NTFS reads all file format, if I want to compress 4GB+ iso, can it reads single big cISO file too ? or only multi-file .wbfs ?

I hope these questions make sense ^^

I didn't try Wii backup manager yet, I'll check if it creates and renames iso and subfolders with game ID (I hope it does it automatically

Oh, I meant transfer speed. Not playing speed.

As in to put the game on the drive.

Hi all,
HELP PLEASE !!!

I usually use ios249 to play all my games with no problems. Today I tried to fire up 'Band Hero' which resulted in a black screen. I switched to ios222 as i figured that's what was required. When i tried to reload USB Loader, I get a black screen, the light on the front of the Wii flashes briefly, then stays on for a second, then flashes briefly, then stays on again for a second. It keeps repeating this until I switch it off.

I have tried the following:
- reinstalling ios222 (rev 4)
- updating the loader to rev 874.
- deleting config files etc.

By deleting the config files i am able to get back into the loader, as it boots under ios 249. But the moment i change the global boot to ios 222, i get the black screen and wii light flashing again.

Any suggestions ???

Thanks in advance.....

Hi again!
Can anybody help me with the above problem ???

I'm having trouble with wiitdb.zip.
I have to download the zip manually because my wii always hangs when I do it over wifi. So I hit 1 on the remote, get the url in the .txt file and put it in my browser. I then put in it my config folder.
It renames MOST of the games, but some are left out (notably Wii Sports Resort). Also my biggest problem, the parental controls don't work. I want to lock out some games from the little ones.

I think I may know one of my problems: game limit?
It seems that the URL generated does not have enough games listed. I have 431 games on my HD, and it looks like the url is way short of that(the URL has all Games listed).
Maybe this limit could be affecting the Parental controls function as well??

Parental controls do work. Go to the usb loader settings>parental control> set your password, and set your hightest allowed control level, for example 2. Back out of the menu then go to the individual game you want to block out, click on settings for that game, then go to game load and set the parental control for that individual game a control level higher than what you previously set in the parental control console window and save. Back out to the main screen and click the little lock icon near the upper right to enable parental control and lockdown the usb loader.

NTFS accepts both while FAT32 is only .wbfs. NTFS can use full .ISO files but that's such a waste of hard drive space.

Thanks but I wanted to make this work globally, using the wiitdb. I guess I'll have to make it work this way.

This is what I get when I put a game as an ISO on to a NTFS partition

EG: ATV quad kings

SIZE 4.37 GB (4,699,979,776 bytes)
SIZE ON DISK 751 MB (787,730,432 bytes)

So it doesnt waste any space compared to the other file systems as far as I can see.

Not if you just copy and paste it, you have to use wbfs_file (or similar). The argument is, if you're going to use wbfs_file anyway then why not use wbfs files?
If you think you're going to need it as an ISO then keep it that way, if you think you might want to copy it somewhere else (which will make it take up 4gb) then use wbfs.

For me NTFS still has too many disadvantages, it is cool though.

question here

Finally I tested ntfs for my brother, but as GX is still buggy with it (I got code dumps when running games on r878) and my brother is not very good in computer, I changed to wbfs partition, I think it's easier for him to run a manager to copy/delete, and use an old and stable GX.

But thank you for the answer. I'm sure GX will get better at loading from ntfs (or maybe it was just a bug from last revision, but I prefer stable release for my brother)

Using games on an NTFS partition using latest USBLoader GX and never once had a code dump.....
It seems to be faster than FAT as well and doesnt seem to have as many loading errors (game hangs and wii slot flashes blue)

Help!!

I just softmoded my wii (4.2E with the instructions posted on this forum, thanks!).

Used USB Loader GX on my flash drive – I am using a Mac so I am using WBFS for Mac. I formated my drive to FAT32 and created 1 partition (it was a 16gb stick), master boot record and FAT32, placed in in the wii and USB loader GX asks me if I want to format the disk ready for WBSF, I say yes and it showed all partitions – partition 1 15.1GB, I chose that one and no problems. I was able to back up wii sports and play it through usb.

[WBFS for mac requires that you format the drive on the wii so it recognizes it before you plug it back in the computer to put iso etc using the manger. I would use the Windows WBFS manager however in when using VMWare (to boot XP) it doesn't read any external drives]

Today I get a 320GB Western Digital Hard Drive, I do exactly the same thing but when I get to USB loader it has all 4 partitions (I only formatted 1) and said 'Cannot be formated'. I reset the wii and now it shows up as each partition 7137088 GB partitions, I choose one and it formats but then I get a stack dump with a bunch of codes.

I formatted my flash drive used in the first test scenario and try again but now its not working! I get the same junk as with HD.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

check the drive for hidden partitions. some manufacturers are now putting hidden ones on the drive and this causes issues with our app. if you do find one, destroy it and other partitions and start over.

Thanks for the reply giantpune.

I've reformatted the drive, I only have 1 partition as its a 320GB drive (formated to FAT32 and under the Master Boot Record)

No success - first time it reads the drive but lists 4 partitions all can't be formated. I quit to the Wii menu and do it again, this time I get all 4 partitions but at 7..... GB. I try one of them, its says it was successful but then jumps straight into the black screen stackdump with buzzing.

Stackdump coded starts with 80aaf920.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong, I did it yesterday and I was fine. I tried again using the drive I used to test and its not working today.
Judging by yesterday's success with formating the drive, ripping a game then playing the game, I am pretty sure I've softmoded correctly and have the relevant files installed.

I've re-installed USB Loader GX, still no success.

you can try another loader to format the drive. try cfg loader or wanin's 1.5. or if you want to use FAT, you can do that on a MAC or with linux live CD.

note that you must use IOS 222/223 to use FAT.

OMG Giantpune!! I love you!!!

I didn't have ISO 222 working, after a quick google i got the cISO installer and in 5 mins IT WORKED!!!

Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated.

I bought a WD my passport essential for my brother, and it came with a hidden UDF auto-mount CD partition with windows asking for driver each time I connected it.
Windows disk manager doesn't detect it as a part of the drive, but as an additional CD rom drive, thus I can't delete that partition

I'm very disapointed over WD !
I can deactivate the UDF partition (with disk manager, or with WD tools), but I never got the UDF reserved space back to the HDD drive

I read I could use the windows autoboot install CD to format this partition from MSdos. but I don't have the necessary tools/time here (at my brother's home).

That's maybe why I got code dump. for more info, I got one after initializing the network to D/L covers, then launching a game.
restarting, launching game without network initialized, it worked fine.
I don't remember what I did when I got the second code dump.
