If you are taking the time to insert your SD/USB into your computer, why not download it on your PC and test the file you receive from there? It may be an issue with the loader downloading the file rather than the actual file itself.
yeah it's the loader downloading it that's causing the problem. I put it on the sd with my pc and it displays fine now.

I thought I would mention also that while changing names with the menu the keyboard screen went blank and I had to hard reset the wii. It always has blinked or glitch blinks all the time but after reading that the .elf runs better than the dol I updated today with latest update given in the thread like 3 pages back and now I'm getting serious blinking of screen and menu, keyboard and almost everywhere I go it's getting pretty bad. I want to keep testing and trying different stuff with this loader but from a serious point of view I feel the coders of this awesome app should clean up the code and fine tune existing strings before going any further.

This is not a gripe, but please tune it up before pushing forward. There are real issues that exist here.

I just deleted the file off the stick in the /images folder, download normal covers, it found 1, downloaded it, go to The robinsons on menu, it's not displayed, take stick out of wii, put it in pc, png is 6kb and can not be displayed.

I'll try again to see if someone just replaced it, I tried 3 times earlier and I got the same results every time.

I'll report back.

EDIT:
NOPE, Im getting the same thing every time, a 6KB file that won't display in the menu or my pc. It won't display with 3 different programs. paint, gimp, microsoft gallery, or GX menu.

RRSE4Q.png file is damaged or corrupt

EDIT2:
I'll just manually put it in by hand and be done with it. just know something funny was going on.
Something is going on with these downloads, I downloaded a cover and a discart ( Science Papa) this morning and I got the same thing, 6Kb files so it is not only one cover.

What settings do I need to set to play Metroid 3 without the any disc in a drive?
there aren't any setting I think just have cios rev 12 or higher and it'll play without a disk

Sorg also wrote an Ocarina code to bypass the "disc in drive" issue incase you don't want to use a different cIOS. You can find it in this thread.

I think it might have something to do with the db file. in the config folder. that thing is causing so much havoc everywhere. really it's an awesome feature but really, i mean really who is going to stop and take the time to read it when you got 20,40 or in my case 179 games on your usb. come on, do we really need it, yeah maybe for the cynosure in all of us but no we just don't need it, we got covers and 3 different ways to view them the game is right there and if thats not enough, why did you even take the time to put it on your usb if you didn't even know what it was or half of what it was about.

just an opinion and getting more cluttered,

Just to clarify, this is a loader issue and not a cover issue as the correct/working covers are available on wiitdb.com at this very moment.

I just wanted to thank everyone for posting about adding the code to make this loader load games from disk. I did not mean to get such a big thing going on about this, but I gess some of us like to idea and some do not. Will I respect everyones thoughts on this, but I don't see any problem with adding it when a disk is put in the wii. So if you don't have a game in the wii you would not even no it was there. For the problems with cios13 users, I have been using cios12 for some time now and only need to use the 002 anti with gostbusters and such. So I do not know why anyone would use cios13 when cios12 works with all games now. If I am wrong I am sure someone will let us know, I just wanted to let otheres know the cios12 works great for me. I do understand why gc games can not be played of the usb hard drive. And need to be played from disk. I just don't use the wii menu for any thing othere then setting up miis and save game management, the sd menu and playing the disk. Most of which I never use any more, but the disk loading I use all to much. A sd menu I thank would be ask way to much, but I was hoping disk loading would not be all that hard to add. We will have to wait and see what the coders thank. So Please please please please, thanks again.

Just to clarify this problem for me was introduced in the r639 elf with forwarder

Today i Go To Download Zelda: Ocriana Of Time and i do not have enough blocks, so i decided to try one of the updates to safely update to 4.0 and get the SD card Menu. i did this and now it cant find my USB HD. Help! I upgraded my cios to cios13 but wasnt sure which ios to install too. Help and Thanks!

Apparently this needs to be pointed out again...

These revisions we are all TESTING are not final versions of the software. You can ask for certain features to be added or removed but it is ultimately up to the coders as to what will be included in this software that they are writing and distributing FOR FREE. If you are having issues with a revision, simply report it to the coders without whining and then revert back to a revision you are happy with. No one releases "final" versions of software 2-3 times a day so do not consider this as such. What's wrong with the coders including all the features they'd like and THEN going back and re-writing the code to clean it up. That saves them from re-writing the code every single time they introduce a new feature (which is pretty often).

If you report something on the google code site, make sure you have tried to completely debug the issue yourself before posting and include all pertinent information (cIOS/Firmware/GX Revision/Steps Taken to Try and Debug Issue Yourself). Many issues can be resolved by simply deleting your config files after an update. Others can be resolved by clicking "Update All" when updating to make sure you download the correct wiitdb file. Still more can be resolved by not updating to a revision unless it is on the official server and can be updated through the loader. Many of the updates people are using are from dols/elfs that were compiled by others and not "officially" released by the GX team. If the coders have not released it, it is probably not ready to be released.

Lastly, unless you download a file from the OFFICIAL GX SITE that says "USB Loader GX v2.0" that's full of glitches, don't come on here whining/griping (while trying to convince us you aren't) about issues and how YOU think the coders should proceed. You are TESTING FREE SOFTWARE. Most of which you received from a source other than the GX team (not saying anyone releases bad dols, only that they might not be ready for release).

Have a good day.

Hey guys

I made an installation guide for this loader.
It starts from zero.

STEP 1 – Installing the HBC and a cIOS.

If you are COMPLETELY new to homebrew, this little guide will tell you how to install homebrew on your wii. The guide can be used for every system menu (up to 4.1).

First, follow steps 1 and 2 of this guide: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=155844 to get the HBC on your wii. Our next step is to get a cIOS installed that is needed for the loader.

Online method (Using wifi on the wii)
Get the Trucha bug restorer by wiipower and run it with the HBC. You will see a lot of text on the screen. This is how many installers/patchers look like.

1) Select IOS36 and press 1 to continue (wait for the text at the bottom).
2) Choose Downgrade IOS15. Then download from NUS (2 times). Follow instructions on the screen.
3) Run TBR again. This time choose IOS15 and again press 1.
4) Go into the IOS36 menu. Use these configurations: 36 YES YES NO. Then choose Install patched IOS36. Choose Download from NUS once again and follow on screen instructions.
5) It will exit again, so load it one last time. Choose IOS36.
6) This time choose restore IOS15. Get the IOS from NUS and let the app finish everything.

We are ready to install our cIOS. Get the installer here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=6133 .
Follow all the instructions at the link, but choose IOS36 instead of IOS249. When you are asked to use wad install or online install, choose online install. You will then have the cIOS needed by the USB loader.

Offline method (no wifi on the wii)
Get the NUS downloader and Trucha bug restorer. Use the NUS downloader to download 000000010000000F v257 (enter it like show on the picture at wiibrew, don't forget to click Pack -> WAD with the name IOS15-64-v257.wad). Do the same with 000000010000000F v266 (and name IOS15-64-v257.wad) and 0000000100000024 v3094 (named IOS36-64-v3094.wad). Place the 3 wads at the root of the SD card.

Now follow steps 1 – 6 from the Online guide, but instead of choosing "Download IOS from NUS", choose "Load IOS from SD card".

We are ready to install our cIOS. But first we need one more file from the NUS: 0000000100000026 v3610 (named IOS38-64-v3610.wad). Place it at the root of the SD card. Download the cIOS installer: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=6133 . Follow the instructions at the link, but choose IOS36 instead of IOS249. You have to choose wad installation. You will then have the cIOS needed by the USB loader.

STEP 2 – Preparing your USB device

Optional

The USB loader can load images and other info of the same usb device as where the games are stored on. To be able to use this function, you will need to make two partitions on the USB device. The partition for the images should have enough with 2GB. You can also make more partitions for other purposes. Use GOOGLE to find out how to make partitions.

Required
The partitions have to be formatted to FAT. They must be primary and active.

STEP 3 – Preparing the SD card
You can also use the USB device for this if you made a second partition in Step 2.
The fastest way of installing the USB loader GX is to download the Easy installer. Run the application and click next (be sure to have an internet connection). You will be asked what files to put on the SD card/ USB device (dependant on where you run homebrew from). Recommended is to download everything except following things:
-The languages that you won't use (only one language can be checked),
-The WiiTDB.zip
-If you already have images for the loader, don't check cleanup, as it will remove the images.
Next, you will be asked where to install the loader to. Advised is to install it to SD:appsusbloader_gx or USB:appsusbloader_gx (replace SD/USB by the drive letter of the card/device). If you're done, click install.

STEP 4 – Running the loader

When you first boot up the Loader (using your favorite method of booting homebrew), you will be asked to format a partition to WBFS. Choose your partition and press A. If your partition is formatted, you are ready to use all functions of this app!

Original version has links to every file (I mean NUS and TBR, not illegal files)
Let me know what you think of it. If you can add or correct anything I would be happy (also if its perfect of course).
I wanted to add it to the readmii (which gets completer every day)

lol, your funny, the coders can't honestly expect to get praised every step of the way, people have their likes AND their dislikes and if the coders want beta testers than they're going to have to put up with peoples whines and gripes along with their praises and amens along with the stupid and the smart. OMG, if people didnt say yes or no in their own way the coders wouldn't have all the answers, they would be making it for themselves and testing it for themselves, well they're not, they release the source when they change it so that someone else can compile it.

I think most of us here know it's not a finished product, but the coders are here in this forum and they read our wants and needs and our ideas good or bad, that is what is going down. so some people need to stop whining about other people whining cause it only makes for a whole lot of whining.

Have a really good day

I think the XML info is useful precisely because I have 210 games on my drive. First of all, if I'm with a friend, there's no way I can know which games support multiplayer or not. With the XML file I can find out. Secondly, this opens the door to much more advanced categorization/filtering of your games collection. You could filter on any field in the XML doc: publisher, online play, multiplayer support, genre, etc...

i have 640 and cant seem to move my homebrew button , i tried usign the line for hte config as posted earlier but i cant seem to move it..

any ideas

I just updated to rev640 (through the loader) a nice load of changes, a few things to claify

What happened to my wiitdb.zip?

What does the wireless wii icon do in the homebrew launcher?

Thats about it

Yeah, I understand, I said it was an awesome feature, but let's say you didn't have the option to use this feature for the sake of it could possibly compromise the speed or stability of said app, lets just say...right. I'll bet you would know or would have a dang good idea of what you and your friend could play together without the db file to reference. I myself have 4 kids and 2 wii's with this installed and I've never, ever needed it to choose what my kids, friends and I are going to play, most of us learn about what the game is fully about 3 months before a game comes out in say a Game Informer or some other mag.

I see your point and respect it, but don't prefer it to the compromise of discussed issues it has presented in past posts.

I am not trying to down on somebodies efforts here, I'm just letting my voice be heard. I know someone has put a lot of effort into it and I respect that. It does serve a purpose for some people and that's all it takes is for 1 person to have a use for it to be worth while. It's just not my perogative and I'm not going to use it cause it causes my system and others to have issues.

Respectfully,
ChokeD

This should give you at least one of your ansers http://code.google.com/p/usbloader-gui/source/detail?r=640

Shweet autoupdate, so does this mean that homebrew such as the homebrew browser which initialises network from the lancher can be loaded?
