I'm having some problems related to playing Wii games in USB Loader GX (latest version). Every time I try to load a Wii game, the loader shows a permanent black screen which requires a restart of the console. The hard drive is being read and the games show up just like they normally would, but they don't run. The HDD is connected to the bottom (equals left in a vertical console position) USB port on the Wii.

I've tried to install the games on the HDD (Smash Bros. Brawl amongst others) using retail disks in USB Loader GX, which created a wbfs folder on the root of the hard drive. Wii Backup Manager verifies the .wbfs files inside that folder without hassle.

I'm using the same partition for my Gamecube games (32k cluster size), which all work just fine. This a specific issue for the Wii games. The same game files have previously worked using a WBFS formatted partition through WBFS manager. USB Loader GX is the only loader I've tried.

Any insight regarding the matter is appreciated!

Which cIOS version and base are you using to play games?

Go to the settings > credit, look at the top right. (this cIOS in the one used by the loader, not the games)
Then check Settings > Loader settings > Game IOS.

By default, the cIOs used by loaders is slot 249.
In that slot, you should have d2x cIOS v10 (beta52 or 53) with base 56.
if it's not the case, try to reinstall d2x cIOS, or try another slot in the settings.

• V8
latest stable release

• v9 (beta)
Adds Port1 support, simultaneous Dual port support, more HDD supports, less EmuNAND compatibility.

• v10 ("never released as stable", but stable)
V10 is a fusion of v8 + v9, but exists in two versions:
- v10 (rev 52): More HDD support, same EmuNAND compatibility as v8.
- v10-alternative (rev 53): More HDD support, Port1 support, Dual port support, less EmuNAND compatibility than v8.

To resume:
V10 (rev52) = v8 with better HDD support. If your HDD is working in v8, you don't need to update.

If you want dual port support, you need rev53, but you'll have a less stable EmuNAND.
I recommend users to install v8 or v10 beta52 (while most guides tell users to install beta 53 because it's the latest revision! but that's wrong, it should depend on the user's need and understanding)

Of course if you are on vWii, you need v10.
Never install any version lower than v10 on vWii.

You can check the comparison chart here:
https://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios/wiki/How_to_choose_d2x_distribution

I was supposed to create a new thread but instead decided to piggy-back here.

I have the same problem but to not all Wii Games, but I believe to select ones only, i.e. Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Prime 3, etc.

MIOS v10 (DIOS MIOS 2.6.1+)

Report generated on 2014/05/14.

As stated, I have opted to stay on v8. And also, all the problematic games that I'm having on USB Loader GX does not occur on CFG Loader Mod r65. I have tried to copy the settings off cfg mod and use the same on gx, but still the same.

I have tried upgrading d2x to v10 then v8 before to see if it makes the difference, but to no avail.

I would really like USB Loader GX to work. I don't mind CFG Loader Mod, but I just really like the look and user friendliness of GX and complete independent-ness to use a pc to change settings.

Please help..

Edit:
Forgot to mention that I have both the latest versions of CFG Loader Mod and GX 3.0 revisions on my HDD formatted as FAT32 32K cluster (apps and gamecube games) for partition one and NTFS (Wii Games) for partition 2 on a 500gb HDD.

Hi,

I am stuggling get my games working :( I am also facing black screens with all my games. I have super smash bro, just dance 4 and wii resort.

I followed a guide online and installed the cios etc..

from what Cyan said, going into Go to the settings > credit. and I'm currently with rev874 IOS249 (rev20)

I cannot find any other guides getting this to work or just can't simply follow it (call me thick).

from what Cyan has said I have downloaded d2x cIOS v10 r52 but do not know how to install this

also if someone can teach me how to nand backup incase I brick it. I have installed BOOTmii but controller doesn't work? Please help :)

Thanks in advance.

You are wayyyy outdated, so it's not easy to help you if you don't understand how it's working.
It would require a lot of updates from various things (homebrew channel, system files, homebrew, hard drive, etc.).
It would be best to follow a guide to re-softmod your Wii completely from scratch (for example using modmii).

By following modmii guide you will have a step to make a nand backup too.

modmii is a computer program which will generate a softmod guide based on your own situation. Follow that guide carefully and you will have an updated Wii able to launch latest versions of loaders.

I don't remember if modmii will provide the latest cIOS (d2x v10) or if you need to enable "beta cIOS" option before generating the guide.
But if you follow the guide without the beta cIOS, it's fine too. d2x v8 is working fine, unless you want to use two HDD at the same time.

If you already have the homebrew channel installed, you don't need to use an exploit. Just launch homebrew from the homebrew channel.

Existing cIOS:
cIOS rev17
cIOS rev18
cIOS rev19
cIOS rev20 <-- You currently have this one
cIOS rev21
cIOS rev21 d2x v1
cIOS rev21 d2x v2
cIOS rev21 d2x v3
cIOS rev21 d2x v4
cIOS rev21 d2x v5
cIOS rev21 d2x v6
cIOS rev21 d2x v7
cIOS rev21 d2x v8 <-- Latest stable
cIOS rev21 d2x v9 beta 49
cIOS rev21 d2x v10 beta 52
cIOS rev21 d2x v10-alt beta 53 <-- latest release. Marked as beta, so maybe modmii will not install this one. It's fine if modmii gives you v8. don't worry.

Sorry Duncan,

what I mean is, that it restarts the Wii upon entering it.

also after installing everything using my modmii guide, it instaled another usb loader but when I click on it, it flickers the screen with Nintendo in the back and restarts Wii.

Sounds like a crash, hmm try installing the latest CIOS 247, 248 and 249 along the CIOS 222

On the other hand it could be your loader is too old, try fetching any of the ones that are in the sticky, or uloader Rodríguez mod 5.1E

don't launch the loader using the channel that modmii installed. (this is a forwarder, it's trying to load multiple known USBLoader's paths on SD. If you don't have them it will not launch and return to system menu)
Go to homebrew channel and launch USBLoaderGX from there.

be sure you have d2x cIOS installed in slot 249 too.
You can verify by following the Syscheck guide in my signature. please post the syscheck report here.
