Hi all,

I want to share a project I have been working on: a way to build your own games for a jailbroken PS5 straight from the Unity and Unreal Engine editors, without the official PlayStation SDK.

WHAT IT IS FOR
Both engines can already build games for PS5, but only when Sony's SDK is installed, and that SDK is given to licensed studios only. This project puts a stand-in in its place. You press Build in the editor as usual and get a .pkg file that installs on a jailbroken console like any other homebrew package.

It is a tool for making and running your own games and experiments. It does not run or unlock commercial games.

WHAT IT IS MADE OF
1. fake-sdk
A folder that the editors take for the PS5 SDK. Behind the tool names the editors expect there are ordinary open tools (the LLVM compiler and linker) and a few programs written for this project: one that turns the compiled game into a file the PS5 can load, a packager that makes the .pkg, and small editors for the package settings. A few original Sony libraries are still inside where there is no open replacement yet (shader compiler, texture tools, SDK headers). Unzip it, run setup.bat, and that is all: nothing to install.

2. Unreal Engine 5.1.1 patches
The PS5 platform files of Unreal Engine 5.1.1, changed so that the engine builds with fake-sdk and a current compiler, plus fixes that make ray tracing work on the console. A step-by-step README is included: download the engine source, copy the files, apply two patches, build.

3. Ready-made Unreal editor
The same engine, already built, for those who do not want to compile it themselves (about 34 GB unpacked). Unpack it, open your project, choose Platforms > PS5 > Package Project.

4. Unity editor
Unity 2022.3.5f1 with its PS5 module, ready to use with fake-sdk: Build Settings > PS5 > Build Type "Package" > Build.

WHAT WORKS
Tested on a PS5 with firmware 6.50.

- Unity: games install and run; the DualSense works, trigger effects included.
- Unreal Engine: games install and run with gamepad and sound. Lumen with hardware ray tracing works; the demo below runs at 60 fps with dynamic resolution.

WHAT DOES NOT, YET
- PlayStation Network features: trophies, leaderboards and the like.
- Save data and system dialogs in Unity: they build, but were not tried on a console.
- Everything was tested on one console with firmware 6.50. Other firmwares may or may not work; reports are welcome.

WHAT YOU NEED
- A PC with Windows 10 or 11.
- A jailbroken PS5 that installs unencrypted homebrew packages. Tested with etaHEN, kstuff and the a53_ppr_install payload.
