that's exactly what i was thinking.......

Wiiboxart should be used ONLY for loaders to download covers.

And you should post 3 links (megaupload , rapidshare etc......) on your main page , 1 PAL , 1 NTSC-U and 1 NTSC-J , each one with all covers inside and keep these links updated once weekly with new covers.

this way you should save a lot of bandwith.

"that they can download from say megaupload, rapidshare or any other of the many site's available"

sounds like a good idea.

Rapidshare and megaupload are a pain as they need constantly checking to make sure all the files havent been deleted.

When the covers reach 700-1000+ is going to be quite a chore to make sure they are all still there and not just a bunch of dead links

The problem is , people look for different sizes and different types.

the site takes a while to make the zips because this is what it has to do for say full covers

1. take the a JPG image thats 3236x2161 pixels(they vary , but thats an example) to 512x340 pixels and change the image from a JPG thats on the site to the PNG and place it into the temp folder, it then has to do the same for every image selected (think about resizing images manually - the server does this)
2. The it takes the folder it just created , and makes a zip rom the files in it
3. Then it removes the temp files again to try to keep the stoage usage on the server as low as possible
4. then it displays the link for the zip for people to download

its doing this while trying to keep the files its resizing for 1 person seperate from the files its resizing for another person and doing both (or more) at the time time .

The images are kept big and in JPG format for future projects which is why the site converts them

this is why it takes a while to build a zip file from the images , its all the resizing and converting and creating temp files before zipping

@rustybanana : we are not talking about 1 link per cover , but 1 link for a package of ALL the covers.
So no pain to check if 1 link is still available.

And if the link is updated with new covers once weekly , that's ok , links are not deleted after 2 days.....

Ok i have the new link for the loaders sorted out for any coders here :

Full Covers (like Hibers loader)
http://www.wiiboxart.com/hibern/username/password/GAMEID.png

Resized front covers (160x224 as default) - beardfaces loader
http://www.wiiboxart.com/beardface/Usernam...word/R6BP78.png

You'll notice you dont need to set in the size any more for that loader - im going to keep it specific to that loader or any using that size.

USERNAME and PASSWORD are not case sensative but GAMEID has to be in caps
If these could be put into a text file like titles.txt and read from there or entered on the console it would be great.

If a user isnt logged in they get a google advert , if they are they get the full cover in the correct size.

Also , some of the original members on the site have an incorrect setting for this to work so they get an error to contact me if that happens - please test your username and login on a browser before you go any further.

Thanks guys.

Just wondering, but what is the site going to do for some games like The Conduit that have multiple cover? I noticed that the small cover is the normal one and the full cover is the limited edition one (or the other way around) currently, and thought it could be a good idea if anyone that had the missing covers upload them. Maybe there could be 2 Conduit sets, one for each cover?

Just trying to throw out some ideas to make the site better.

The site doesnt care about names , it works on codes - so if the codes are the same then only 1 cover can be used , unless you choose to use a 00 code as the last 2 digits instead of the normal one

I have coded the site for disc art for the loaders for usernames and passwords

www.wiiboxart.com/diskartloader/160/160/USERNAME/PASSWORD/RPGE00.png

Coders can use 3,4,5,6,12 digits for the game , but the 4th one makes the returned image more specific

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
