I have a USB 3 hard drive to go with my wii u.
In order to maximise performance and prevent lag in "just dance 2019" I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of my equipment.

First of all is the wii u usb 3 compatible?
If so. (I haven't been able to find out) the biggest bottleneck will be my powered USB hub, which is NOT usb3, to the best of my knowledge. In fact I think USB3 has a blue connector on the cable, mines white.

Assuming I'm right I need a new hub. Can anyone advise which would be recommended?
Thanks.

Wii U's USB ports are USB 2.0.

Also can't help you too much with the hub. It should be a powered hub but other then that the Wii U is fussy about what it wants to work with and it would be better to keep things to the 4 USB ports on the console.

Truth even is: WiiU doesn´t even use USB 2.0-mode when it runs the WiiU-OS. So yeah, you can use USB 3. But it will be limited to 1.5 or 2 Mbytes/Second (USB 1.1) as that´s the max. allowed communication-speed in WiiU-mode via USB. The WiiU´s OS controls that.
And we have enough proof of that now.
So it´s better to not waste USB 3-devices on WiiU.
