Hacking USB external drive questions

I have a few questions about using an external HDD since sx os 2.2 came out.

I am not sure where the update file (nsp) I'm installing is going? HDD or the SD card? The Options are sd card or internal.

Does it make a difference which usb port I use?

You can put the nsp on SD card or hdd, but you can only install it on SD or internal storage.

put your xci files on the root of hdd to load and play them. Put nsp files on the root of hdd to install them to your sd card.
