3.5 spoofing never let people online, it was actually a peek and poke change that made retail consoles look like dev consoles which bypasses the updates. The 3.5 spoof was made by someone to attempt to get onto the network but never actually worked, it was just integrated into the payload for safety reasons. I think it also prevents the console from being updated.
