All versions "stop use" of the SD, you have to edit the main.c of the ES Module before you compile if you want SD access.

I don't think SNEEK works with NTFS drives, so that is probably your problem. Try again with it formatted to FAT32.

You would be better posting in one of the SNEEK threads, rather than starting your own. That way you'll get lots of people who have successfully compiled and got SNEEK running.

UNEEK has it enabled as default option. At least in rev102 with the Installer.

Exactly. Only FAT32 with Clusters under or 32KB will work with SNEEK/UNEEK/PUNEEK. And all the games have to be extracted to the SNEEK/PUNEEK compatible format. So, NTFS/ISO and SNEEK/its modifications is simply not possible.

True.
@Nintynuts: If these are not the answers you wanted, speak clearer. I still don't really know what you want...

Thanks for clearing that up Blue-K, I wasn't aware that UNEEK had changed to have SD access as default.

My USB drive (actually a 30gb mp3 player which the battery has died) doesn't work with UNEEK/SNEEK+DI so not been keeping up with how it works. SNEEK r102/3 does exactly what I need (only wanted to test DI because I was curious :> ).

OK, firstly as I stated waaay back at the beginning, my USB NAND is in Fat32.. as I also stated the NTFS will only be for ISOs for USB Loader GX. and at the moment it's WBFS, so that's not even an issue right now.

Blue-K it sounds like you know what your talking about, this is mainly directed at you.

My current setup:
System Menu 4.2E, with HBC, USB Loader GX, BootMii.
USB HDD has 2 partitions, Fat32 and WBFS.
1GB SD card with Homebrew files.

What I'm aiming for/best case scenario:
Virgin Wii 4.2E except for Boot2
Emulated NAND on 50GB Fat32 partition
Homebrew on same 50GB Fat32 partition (I can understand this might be a problem.. SD would be OK)
Wii ISOs on NTFS 450GB partition
Only BootMii files on SD (unless the above IS a problem)

RIGHT NOW:
I am making a virgin NAND on SD from Scratch using http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=218725 as a guide. I will then copy this to USB and try to make it work... As of yet, all that happens is I get a blank screen with UNEEK. (I have both UNEEK and SNEEK in different folders on my SD so i can switch between them including 'boot2.bin's)

I hope everything is clear now, although I thought I was being pretty crystal before hand.

Then it's relatively simple. Make SNEEK and build your virgin NAND, put your virgin NAND FS on your SD card. put boot2.bin/bootmii dir on sd card.

Ensure it boots.

Move the NAND-FS to usb drive. Leave the bootmii dir on SD card, delete boot2.bin. Compile (or use whatever installer you use) sneek again, this time use the boot2_usb.bin (renamed boot2.bin) and place on the USB drive and the SD card.

If your drive is compatible, if the FAT32 partition is a primary partition marked as active it will work. If your enclosure/drive isn't compatible then it won't boot.

Well, OK, here we already have one problem: You want to convert the WBFS-Partition to an NTFS one, alright, no problem until here. Now, but you also want to load the ISOs via an USB-Loader, right? And since you want a clean real NAND with no cIOS, it seems that you want to load the games from SNEEK, via GX & cIOS, and this, I'm sorry, isn't possible. cIOSes don't work in SNEEK, and probably will never. The only way to load "Backups" on SNEEK is via DI, or with an Modchip.

Now, to the virtual NAND on USB: Just be really shure that the FAT32-Partition has a Cluster lower or 32KB, and is primary and active. This is important, otherwise it won't work. Also make shure that your drive works without any cIOS with Homebrew applications (For example, try WiiXPlorer WITHOUT IOS202). As far as I know, SNEEK/UNEEK don't have the drivers included in the cIOS, that's why the HD maybe even won't work with SNEEK/UNEEK. Other than that, if you use the official SNEEK/UNEEK-Installer, check UNEEK, follow the rest, and it should work.

So, your goal is perfectly possible (dunno about Homebrew, it should work, but don't quote me on that), unless with "Wii ISOs on NTFS 450GB partition" you've also meant to play them. Then you would have to wait for a new version of PUNEEK (it's really outdated now), convert all your games, and make your SNEEK/UNEEK Partition bigger for these games.

SO it's impossible to use USB Loader GX within UNEEK because of conflicting usage of the HDD? and the only option for playing games is to use DI and extract them all?

I got the impression PUNEEK was a modification made specifically to do this

I don't have the first clue how to test if my drive works with homebrew without cIOS.

What I wanted was a full softmod solution on my HDD (incorporating USB Loader GX, with lots of space for WADs) and a virgin Wii (except Bootmii).

You can use a special GX, made especially for PUNEEK. But, it still requires FAT32 and all games to be extracted (like DI). "All" PUNEEK did was to add support that the NAND and the games can be on the same HD/Partition, and maybe support for special loaders, but that's it (as far as I know). With UNEEK, it is impossible to use GX, because the cIOS won't work, yes.

Basicly it's easy. Launch WiiXplorer from the HBC (with your HD plugged in), and look if you can choose your HD in the menu. Or even easier: If HBC sees it, it should work too. And it sounds like this is the case.

Right, well HBC detects my USB when it's attached.

If I was to extract all my games for use with DI/PUNEEK I would want to be able to load the games in USB Loader GX, as it's a much nicer interface. So why is PUNEEK so out of date and is it too out of date to use now? I assume this mean Game channels (ISO forwarders) wouldn't work either, so is there an alternative loader for use with the DI format?

SNEEK/UNEEK had many fixes and improvements in the last time, so many that PUNEEK would have to be completely redesigned, it isn't easy to update (I think Pune said this, the creator of PUNEEK. Maybe it even won't get updated at all, he didn't sounded like that). Also, there were, as far as I remember, some problems with PUNEEK, the loaders had problems displaying over 38 Games, or something like that. I never tried PUNEEK, but as far as I read, it wasn't for everyday use (even less than SNEEK).

Game Channels (with CRAP, etc.) won't work too, because they also rely on an cIOS. But ISO-Forwarders for Homebrew should work (in theory).

So, here's my tip for you, leave the whole SNEEK thing. IMO, it isn't stable enough, and is just for toying around. I also though I could switch completely to it, but I had to screw that. For me, every small thing could break SNEEK completely. Until it's more stable, I'll use it for the shits and giggles, and not more. It's a mystery that it works without problems for some people, but for the most people not.

If you want something stable and reliable, use the good old cIOS and Loader (though, not GX, it's far away from stable and reliable). It matches with nearly all your goals, and a virgin Wii is overrated, you don't need one. If you want a virgin Wii because you fear APs, you shouldn't have hacked it in the first place.

Kl, ok i now understand a lot better what the situation is. So i think the game plan needs altering. If i only use UNEEK for WADs, is there a way to revert to real NAND from UNEEK, scrapping the whole virgin wii thing and use real NAND for USB loader GX only and UNEEK for VC/WiiWare.

What would be great is if there were a channel which would do this, going straight into USB loader GX on real NAND from a special USB Loader GX forwarder in emulated NAND (that looked like the usual one). That way it would seem seamless and i would have all my gamesaves on my Wii.

Also, i finally have a virgin NAND working on SD. I reformatted my USB as exFAT 32 kilobytes (closest I can match Fat32 as far as I know) to be sure, copied over the virgin NAND and still got nothing. Does it matter if it's not the first partition (it's still active and primary)?

In response to your comments on USB Loader GX, I wasn't aware it was unstable, i've never had problems with it. I just looked up alternatives and was lead to a fairly recent Poll showing GX to be most popular followed by WiiFlow and Configurable. I saw Wiiflow when it first started being developed and I must say it's come a long way and I'm going to give it a try although the forwarder I saw was pretty horrible. Then Configurable has that horrible font I cant stand to look at. What i like about GX is it's visual integration with the Wii Menu and that i've never had problems with it since cIOS 13a.

I formatted my whole HDD to exFAT 32K, but HBC is only pointing out USB is there, not reading from it, so maybe my drive isn't compatible. Is there any way to fix this? Why would it work for loading WBFS games but not for HBC/UNEEK?

EDIT: STUPID STUPID STUPID! I just found out exFAT 32K != FAT32, Formatting as FAT32 and trying again

UPDATE: HBC now recognizes it, first attempt at UNEEK doesn't seem to be going anywhere, I will try fiddling with it.

UPDATE 2: UNEEK IS WORKING!!! it booted my NAND dump first attempt (virgin NAND first attempt was not so successful). only thing is Pokemon Rumble isn't working, just need to figure out why...

Now I'm getting somewhere, can someone explain why my Wii NAND Dump boots in UNEEK but my Virgin NAND I got working on SD doesn't?

BTW, new plan is to use UNEEK for all my WADs and use my SD as a switch between real NAND for ISOs and UNEEK for WADs. Homebrew is now working from USB (in Real NAND at least, i haven't tried UNEEK).

UPDATE: Now i'm not getting anywhere... I've got UNEEK to load my NAND dump, but it takes it's sweet time. Then, once it's got to system menu, anything I load (with the exception of Lostwinds which worked once) just gives me a black screen (no hard-drive access at all)

I tried making a new Virgin NAND from System Menu 4.2 and IOS70, which worked like a charm until I tried to load it a second time. Now none of my Virgin NANDs are working with from USB. So what could be stopping UNEEK from booting the virgin NAND the second time? once I figure out this and have my WADs installed and working, it's problem solved for the SNEEK side of things (I'm having issues with loading ISOs from NTFS, but I assume that's a separate issue)

I hope someone can think of something, I'm completely stuck

So basically what you want is to be able to load games from USB and have a lot of VC/Wiiware with UNEEK the pirate's paradise. I kind of have the same set up right now. I have a bare bones 4.2U NAND on one of my SD cards with SNEEK DI boot2 and di. I use this to usb load extracted games from my fat32 usb.

On that same usb fat32 partition I also have another 4.2U NAND that I install all my VC/Wiiware on. I have a DIFFERENT SD card with the UNEEK boot2 on it.

So basically I put in one SD card if I want to play games and one if I want to play VC/Wiiware.

edit: I've mostly found that NTFS partitions aren't very friendly when trying to do stuff on wii.

Also if you don't like SNEEK+DI you can just have all you isos on an NTFS or fat32 partition and USB load them on your real NAND with CIOS. and just use UNEEK for lots of VC/Wiiware

The last thing you said is what I was going for, but as I've said I'm stuck now as my Virgin/Bare Bones NANDs wont boot a second time. I will try a less bare bones version but I think there's something missing because my NAND dump will boot but I cant play many (if any) VC/WW games.
