Hi guys, I have a very early Wiikey installed with an early version of the ofw too (I’m guessing… unless the wiikey software overrules off?) I can’t confirm the exact versions as it’s currently lost in various boxes at the back of the cupboard.

I’m hoping to get this updated to the latest, most efficient versions and methods of running homebrew - I’m guessing via usb ?

I’ve researched a lot of threads on here but still am unsure as to the order of things. Should I just upgrade Wiikey to 1.9 then do I upgrade ofw to 4.2 (seen some negative feedback on 4.3) via disc/usb ?

What would be the exact order to do things in and is there any advice on tools/home brew to run to make life a bit easier ?

Thanks in advance !!

The original WiiKey is one of the best modchips, IMO, if you want to play Wii and Gamecube backups. The best/latest firmware for it is 1.99 Beta, available here: https://gbatemp.net/download/wiikey-1-99beta.33860/

That said, most have moved on to USB loading for some time now. My Wiis were softmodded quite a while ago and I'm not sure of the best current method.

Here are a few softmodding guides to check out:

Don't think that the WiiKey firmware version makes much difference as far as softmodding goes as the WiiKey only gets used when reading discs. After softmodding the Wii, SD and USB will take over loading duties. Most people use 4.3 system firmware. There's a ModMii support thread here too which might be helpful.
