Hacking Upgrading from M3 lite to M3 Real

I understand the M3 uses clean roms so I will have to get clean versions on my memory card instead of the current patched versions. Now I need to ask what type of save does M3 Real use? I think Lite uses .dat so will I need to convert and if so is there a program to do so. Also where should the saves be put for the M3 Lite to recognize them?

The new M3DS Real loaders use .sav

Convert using http://www.shunyweb.info/. The M3DS Real saves are stored alongside the nds files, but be sure the saves are named the exact filename (w/o the .nds) as the game file.
