Hacking Upgrade to 4.2 from Nintendo then apply mod?

Hi everyone - I have a Wii that I plan to apply the mod to it. It's currently on a 4.1 firmware, and was thinking of updating to firmware 4.2 before applying all the mods. Is this the right way? The threads I've read talk about specials for updating to 4.2 with mods already in place, and it seems easier to update first, yes? Thanks.

It's up to you. Either use the official update or the one the guide gives. It's mostly the same.
Official update is probably easier though.

im not 100% but i thought upgrading officially changed your boot 2 so that you couldnt install bootmii as boot 2 (so less brick protection) ...... somebody please correct me if im wrong
