updating system software on modded 3ds

i modded my new 3ds xl a while ago and i just noticed today it says that there is a system update if i update will i lose custom firmware and go back to regular firmware and if not should i update or do i need to do anything before i update it?

hello mine is on version 11.14 and everytime I update through the system setting the console shuts down. I am on luma v11.0 and I have no idea why I can't update the old 3ds. I have changed the DNS settings and unfortunately nothing has workked
