Nothing but minor eShop updates. I went ahead and updated my emuNAND. Immediately afterwards, I updated my Mii Plaza for the first time, and tested the eShop to make sure it was working.

Everything is just fine on the new update. No issues, no problems. You should be safe to update.

Whenever you see an update where the only number that changes is the very last string (in this case, 14U to 15U), it is ONLY an eShop update. Only major updates change the version number at the beginning.

This update has been rumored to be Nintendo preparing to start using their new key system method with their newer games, which basically means they're trying to stop people from playing newer titles on Emunand. This doesn't mean "Don't update", since it would be impossible to get these newer games without access to the eshop anyway.

This is just a rumor, but the new system is inevitably coming, and it sucks. Hopefully Gateway can come up with something to counter this before it starts coming along as a full-scale development. Though, they haven't fixed the 6.x save keys in Emunand yet, so I doubt this will be fixed before that.

Ok thanks but how do you know what the number will be before updating

7.1.0-XX

The "XX" would be the number effected by a minor update.

You search on the internet. There's almost guaranteed to be a thread on GBAtemp when there's an update, and 3DSbrew is usually decently fast in saying what the latest version is too IIRC.
