Hi all,

I've just got my wii and luckily it's version 3.3e. I have already got my copy of Zelda so am gonna run the hack later.
I've been looking at the USBloader with great interest but there do seem to be so many versions of it.
Could someone with experience of using the variety , recommend a decent one? I'm wanting to run backups of wii/gc/wii ware and perhaps some homebrew if that makes any difference.
Finally, looking at the compatibility charts, the best one seems to be the WD passport essential, can anyone confirms that works hassle free?

Thanks a lot.

Sorry pin totally missed your post

, ok well you have to start from scratch , the best way is to get my installer v3 (send me a request PM for the link please) and once we got the hacks and the goodies installed and ready for the USBLoader ( WD Passport and Seagate Free Agent are the best ) then follow my tutorial to prep your drive and you will be up and running

Cheers Moe,

I have done the hack via softmii and have got HB channel etc and my backups from disk are running fine.

I'm now trying to get the USB loader working.
I am using a Free agent Pro 500gb but haven't managed to get it to work.
With waninkoko's original loader 1.5 I was getting -ret6. I go to create a partition but it says none found.
I created a 350gb partition following your instructions and formatted via wbfs manager 2.5.

I am now working my way through the other loaders, with the ultimate 7.4 one i get waiting for USB device and then could not initialize usb sub system -ret1 error.
I've also tried swapping usb ports and powering down/on etc.

Any advice would be appreciated, until then ill carry on trying the other loaders.

ok go ahead and install cIOS_rev10 and setup Waninkoko USB Loader in the App folder , then follow the tutorial from my signature to get HDD Prepared to use with it and try it out , once all work fine you can try any other modded Loaders and it should work just stick to the basics for now

After a lot of fooling around, I managed to set up the HDD up mostly right... I think. The Maxtor manager couldn't find the HDD (even before I formatted it to FAT32), so I couldn't change the power settings. Either way, from my understanding it's done to prevent some freezing issues, and if I can get it running on the Wii and have those issues, then setting up the HDD again shouldn't be much of a problem. I downloaded a program (Nixx WBFS Gui) to put Wii games on it or remove them, and, of course, put Oboro Muramasa on it. I should still have some isos of some other games too, so I'll put those up as well.

Anyhow... I downloaded Waninkoko's USB loader, just unpacked it on the SDcard and put everything in seemingly the right folders. Doesn't seem to be recognized through the homebrew channel though. So I decided to just try and see if I could get anything else running. Downloaded WiiShizzza & the Crew Ultimate USB Loader, started it up through HBC, and it doesn't seem recognize if there's an HDD plugged in or not. Also, the controller automatically goes off once I start the program up, and turns off every time afterwards. It might be, because I don't have that cIOS36_rev10 installed... I put it on the SDcard, but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

Lastly, I tried OggZee Configurable USB Loader. Well, I could start the program up. Then choose a device. But it doesn't seem to matter whether I have the HDD plugged in or not. It always gives me the same error: ( ret = -6 )

The main problem is probably not having cios36_rev10 installed. I think it probably makes the Wii recognize large external storage devices.

EDIT: Nevermind. It was a problem similar to one I had once before... I had to change the .dol file to boot.dol, like the rest. After installing the cIOS36_rev10, the USB loaders all worked like a charm. Now excuse me while I put some more games on my HDD

when 7.4 give you the count down waiting for usb device unplug the power for the HDD and plug it back in and see if it will pickup the partition
wink.gif
if this doesn't work try formating the whole space (500gb)in WBFS and load one game on it and try it again

and please be sure you have cIOS36_rev10 installed ,please post results back

ok most like it cIOS36_rev10 is needed and that's how to install it :
Internet Install :
1- rename (rev10.dol to boot.dol) and put it in a folder (IOS36_rev10 Installer) and put it in (APPs) folder .
2- run HBC and look for (IOS36_rev10 Installer) and run it .
3- when prompt choose internet install and it should do it
wink.gif
.
Wad Install :
1- rename (rev10.dol to boot.dol) and put it in a folder (IOS36_rev10 Installer) and put it in (APPs) folder .
2- put (IOS36-64-v1042.wad) in the root of SD Card .
3- run HBC and look for (IOS36_rev10 Installer) and run it .
4- when prompt choose Wad install and it should do it
wink.gif
.
try it please and post back the results

No wonder I missed it. Anyhow, like you can see in my edit... I have no problems anymore. Of course, it's all thanks to the little help you offered. Otherwise I would've fiddled around with it for days.

I'm having problems with copying games to my USB flash drive. I'm trying out USB loader on my 8gb flash drive first to see if I like it enough to upgrade to 250GB. When I'm dumping a game to it via the Wii disc drive, it'll freeze and stop copying. I've tried 3 different loaders and 3 different games and I get the same result. Does anyone know why it won't copy the games over?

dumping the games via the loaders were not as successful yet cause of many issues of size and kind of the usb drive , however you should use WBFS Manager to do so and it should be fine

Since I only have the retail disc, I can't make an ISO out of it with IMGburn. I want to dump SSBB, and I don't really want to dump over WiFi since it takes too long. Is there any other method of dumping it over USB (or even SD) or will I have to stick with WiFi?

hey big moe, i couldn't find any info on the USB Loader Gui by dimok, nixx,.... in this bible, it would be great if you could add it to the list if its worth it, i havent tried it yet but alot of people seem to be excited about it (and if its already there and i just missed it I apologize).

my expectations is that this is going to be the #1 USBLoader ( I call it LoadGUii ) till the authors correct me with a name they decide on
wink.gif
the only problem is since I've been testing every revision since the 1st page of that project and I do respect all the workers and helpers and beta testers (including myself) it is still a work in progress with more revisions releases every couple of hours !! so when a final beta release with readme and the all 9 yards get to my hand hopefully soon you will see it shining in the beginning of the thread along with all the accessories needed to go with ( themes , backgrounds , covers , discImages , and config.txt/list.txt ) and I'll be glad to represented not only here but with the BigMoeInstallerV4 that been on hold for this loader to be completed , I hope that this is fair

Well I've read alot about these on the boards, before trying it myself, and I'm still really lost. Everything should be setup correctly. I've been successful from the beginning w/ gamma, GC loader, hbc, wads, everything until I got lost in the shuffle. Didn't find out about the USB loader until yesterday... I'm way behind. I've read this bible, and I've still gotta ask. What should I pick? How should I do it? I've got a seagate freeagent 750gb, will this work? If so, will the app partition it for me, or do I need to use PC for that? Most of all, I'd like to know where to start with the loader, so in your opinion, which is the BEST.

Thanks guys.

to get the loader going :
1-install cIOS36_rev10 .
2-click on the 2nd link in my signature and follow directions to prep your hdd (free agent) to become WBFS Format .
3- try it with Waninkoko's USBLoader1.5 and when it list your games it's finished

.
4-switch around between loaders to see which one fits your taste .

I found some interesting tools from another forum that I think will be helpful to people, and I thought I'd share. I'm uploading them to Mediafire, so you don't have to register on that forum to get them.

Media Forwarder Channel v2

QUOTE said:
This is a little app/channel that combines the five Wii Media Players GeeXboX, MPlayerWii,
MPlayer Twiizer Version, MPlayerWii Mod (rodries) and Dragon Media Player into one app / channel.
The Media Forwarder loads the media apps from the front sd according to the held button on
launching the channel. The paths on sd are as followed:

- GeeXboX: /apps/geexbox/boot.elf
- MPlayerWii: /apps/MPlayerWii/boot.dol
- MPlayer Twiizer: /apps/MPlayer/boot.dol
- MPlayerWii: /apps/MPlayerWii_rodries/boot.dol
- Dragon Media Player: /apps/dmp/boot.dol

They are the same paths that the Homebrew Browser uses. That means if you downloaded the apps with
the Homebrew Browser, all paths are set for the Media Forwarder.

Choosing the loaded media player:
----------------------------------------
When launching the Channel, simply hold down one direction or the A button on the Wiimote's
d-pad for the desired media player to load (directions are shown on screen).

Besides that you can specify a favorite media player in the media_forwarder.conf config file. This
favorite media player will be loaded automatically, if no button is pushed on the Wiimote.

changes:
----------
- v1: initial release
- v2: added DMP on button A, removed menu when holding A on channel launch

usage:
--------
1. Install Media Forwarder Channel v2.wad using WadManager, or inject media_forwarder_v02.dol
into your own wad
2. Copy the file "media_forwarder.conf" into the root of the sd
3. Edit "media_forwarder.conf" and change the path to your favorite media player
3. Put your SD card back into the Wii and launch the installed channel from 1

Tools Forwarder Channel

QUOTE
This is a little app/channel that combines four apps for Wii into one app/channel.
The Tools Forwarder loads the apps from the front sd according to the held button on
launching the channel. The apps and their paths on sd are as followed:

means if you downloaded the apps with the Homebrew Browser, all paths are set for the Tools
Forwarder.

Choosing the loaded app:
-----------------------------
When launching the Channel, simply hold down the button on the Wiimote's
