all you have to do is install cios rev10 and put usb loader on your SD card. you can load homebrew from homebrew channel and install WADs

Alright. So, I just purchased a 2nd hand wii and its a 2008 version and i can't install bootmii as boot2. Before I start I was wondering what precautions do I make to prevent bricking. Install bootmii as IOS? then install preloader? and then follow the ultimate guide?
Make a nand backup with bootmi IOS version before starting. install preloader and remember to reinstall preloader every time you change system menu versions.

My specs 3.2U w/ tp hack, Preloader .28, Bootmii with a backup of Nand, No cios that I remember but some Ios (madworld) installed. From reading 1000 posts I think I feel brave enough to take it on. I will clean a sd card I have so that it will only have this pack on it so not to interfere with any other stuff (preloader). Should I DISABLE preloader or just have it set to System menu? I will follow your guide including downgrading since I see your point of it to make sure there is no conflicts with cios installed. Any suggestions before I jump in it tomorrow and Im looking at this correct?
Thx for all the posts.

I start at step 6 since I have Wad, hbc and bootmii installed?
yeah start at step 6

I'm about to do this to a friends launch Wii. I'll probably do the offline method as it worked great for me. One question though. When I ran prepare.bat to upgrade my 3.2 to 4.0, it made IOS60 and 61 which I installed to go to 4.0. If I want to jump straight to 4.0 I should be installing those 2 wads as well as 1-18 correct? So like ....

12) Run WAD-Manager_v1.4 again. Choose IOS249 and install WADs 01-18, and then IOS60 and 61. If WAD Manager freezes during installation just try again from the WAD it froze on.

13) While still in WAD Manager install SystemMenuv4.0.wad

Might want to add that into the offline guide if what I am saying is correct?

All installed w/o a hitch. Now to get my hacks.ini setup correct.
! more Q I have 1 SD with Bootmii installed and another with all my Wads and channels. Can I just keep my bootmii in safe keeping in case of a issue so that it dont boot into bootmii each time? Just extra steps I think I could skips so teh kids dont mess with bootmii.
Thx again great tut I will post links to it for my buds.

Hopefully you guys can give me some insight.

I have a launch US Wii with 3.2 firmware that I downgraded from 3.4 with Homebrew Channel Installed. It was up to date with all the IOS etc at that time before the update to 4.0 was released.

Now I want to upgrade to 4.0 but dont have access to a SD card thats formatted FAT 16. Only a 4Gig SDHC card.

Anyway, do you think its wise to upgrade to 4.0 via Nintendo System Update. Then use Bannerbomb to reinstall Homebrew Channel etc.

Thanks

What's stopping you from just formatting your 4GB SDHC card and using that to follow the guide? What is it formatted to at the moment?

Ah it can't be formatted to FAT at all? Have you tried using the card with whatever it CAN be formatted to with this?

Nope. Anything larger than 4gb can only be FAT 32. And no because like I said I dont have access to one.

do you mean bannerbomb? you may experience issues when copying channels using the system menu you should remove the \private\wii\title\aktn\ folder when you are not using it

I think it was Bannerbomb that I used to install hackmii (bootmii) but had to use a new SD card since bootmii didnt like my Trans. So I have 1 with just Bootmii, preloader.29 and the files needed in Ultimate Guide and the older card with all wads, crazyintro, and all apps. So your saying delete the Private that Ive seen on one of the cards. I think I installed hackmii off HBC since I was already TP hacked.
Thx again for guide and your continued support for posts and questions.

i hate to be a noob but if i have homebrew stuff on my sd do i delete it or can i leave it on and just paste the file pack on the root? the sd card is already properly formatted. thanks.

Hi!

I'm trying to follow the steps of the offline part of this guide.
Everything seems easy enough but everytime I run the "prepare.bat" the SystemMenuv###.wad
gets reported as bad in MooSFV.

I can't seem to find much info about why it's turning bad all the time, some people have said that it may
take a couple tries, but I've been trying for two days now with no success >_

Just copy the stuff you have now onto your pc and put the files from this on the card, follow the guide, and then put your stuff back (but leave the bootmii folder)

You don't have a vulnerable IOS with the trucha bug in it so you need to get one with it first either by following the offline guide to downgrade IOS35 (which CAN'T be done on LU64+/boot2v4 Wii's (Wii's bought around this year or so)) or you could also try using the Trucha Bug Restorer that was recently released and works on any system.

1.copy it to your PC
2. format the card
3.do the guide
4.format the card again
5.copy your old homebrew back

the easiest way to check is the serial number on the bottom of the Wii, if your serial is LU64+ then you may not be able to use either guide
try the offline guide and see if it works

I followed this guide (without isntalling bootmii) and after the 4.0 updater i get a black screen when i start my wii and can't do anything! Can anybody help me?

did you think skipping steps was a good idea? do you have preloader? try unplugging the system and plugging it back in and hold reset while powering on

Does the format ABSOLUTELY HAVE to be fat16?

My computer (read my sig for the specs
tongue.gif
), which has XP SP3, only allows me to format for fat32.

I'm using a microSD in a usb adapter. When I use it in my wii, I just put it in a SD adapter and it works fine.

FYI: USB 1.0 SUCKS!!!

EDIT: just found out fat16 only supports up to 2gb. I'm using a 4gb SDHC. That answers one question, but I still need to know if I can use fat32 instead.
