EDIT: It updated. I was just kinda scared that it took almost 20 mins just to update. Just wasn't sure to expect

I know. That's why I like to do the offline install. It may be more dangerous, but at least you know if the install failed right away.

assassda: Did you just add the "If you already have the Homebrew Channel AND cIOS installed you may skip to step 10" disclaimer recently? I printed out the OP recently to do the 4.0 upgrade on my friend's wii and I could have sworn that step wasn't there. I took a chance skipping step 9 and everything is working fine and dandy. It make sense that it failed since I already installed CIOS rev 10.

I did because a poster earlier complained that cios_fix.wad did not install correctly when IOS249 already existed. there is no harm in installing cios_fix.wad but if you have cios already it is not needed

I followed this guide and got everything working, except I got an error where in usb loader after scrolling down through iso's 3 would turn into a long line of symbols and if I kept scrolling I got a data dump and it froze the wii.
I couldn't figure out how to fix it and I figured it was due to it just "not liking" certain iso's.
So... I went into usb loader today and hit the home button and it allowed me to upgrade, this fixed the problem I was having BUT now in any iso loaded with usb loader or when using the homebrew channel the reticule is reversed! move wiimote up and the reticule moves down, left moves right, etc.
This unfortunately makes everything pretty unusable, anyone have this problem or know how I can correct it?

Two things: Step A does result in a network error. However, there's no prompt to exit. It just "crashes" out to the HBC. I did try to install cios_fix.wad, and I got an error. It wasn't a matter of reinstalling cios_fix.wad. The cios_fix.wad never worked successfully.

OK have used this guide and have updated my Wii to 4.0 without any hitches, has also installed preinstaller for good measure...but i have a problem with one game, Williams Pinball Collection! As soon as i insert the disc into the Wii it starts loading it and then causes the Wii to freeze and crash, i have to power off to get the Wii working again, if i turn the Wii on with the disc in, it gets to the Health Warning screen but after i press 'A' to go to the Wii System Menu screen the Wii freezes on a black screen!, any ideas??
Try launching through Gamma Loader. did you use the online guide or offline?

I used the online guide mate, i wouldnt though it possible for a game to crash the Wii after the health screen?, it is a trucha signed disc im using if that matters?, but then so is my copy of No More Heroes and that runs fine??

Dear assassda i have formatted my wii and used the offline guide to install HBC 1.01 and it worked like a charm, i went to step (9) of the guide and tried to do cios fix.wad but it keeps giving me a ret error 1035 (i think 1035 or 103 something any ways) i dont know how to fix it but i think i should put step (10) before step (9) but i dont want to risk bricking and after i become the 3.2 system menue with preloader will i be able to become the 4.0 system menue and able to do every thing?

9) If you do not have cIOS installed yet Run WAD-Manager_v1.4 choose IOS35 and install cios_fix.wad then restart

10) Run cIOS36_rev10-Installer and choose WAD Installation

Yes if you already have cios installed it wont let you install cios_fix.wad

Did you try launching it through Gamma Loader? If its a newer game you may need to install IOS38 53 or 55

If step 10 works then just skip step 9. step 9 is for people who never had cios installed

Its not the loader, it's in the homebrew channel too, I tried a different loader and the same issue. Is there a way to format everything and start over? remove all cios and crap? I took out my SD card and USB drive and it still did it in the homebrew channel so I am 100% sure its something on the wii system memory

EDIT: it was my wii remote, I tried my gf's and a spare and they both worked fine, pretty crazy.

I am having a huge problem too after following these steps for a 3.4U virgin.

I got error "error 324" in the backup launcher when using a DVD+R Verbatim.

I then reburned the game on DVD-R Verbatim and get a blue screen with ERROR #2

I did all the steps in this guide till the 'Further Step' section when I stopped.

Any help please to get the backups to work. The backup is of Wii Punch Out.

Alright I need some help. I have a virgin 3.4U Wii that I instaleld the homeBrew channel and backup launcher.

The steps I followed are from a the Yafaze guide.

I've done these already:

- Install IOS60.wad using Wad Manager
- Install CIOSv10 Using HBC

Now one step is to IOSdowngrader using HBC

I am planning on upgrading to 4.0 and doing that next prior to the IOSdowngrader step.

If I follow your guide instead where should I start from? Thanks

Ok. I read several pages of this tut., and finally realized there was 48 I think. So, I am just gonna ask my question. I have a 3.2U Wii. I have HBC, Bootmii (IOS), and Preloader. I have already updated the IOS 60 and shop channel without updating the system menu. I would now like to update the system menu. I am not sure what I should do with the Wanin updater. Do I just do everything again and let it overwrite what I already have? Or, do I need to skip certain steps. I also have cIOS rev. 10.

on the offline guide

i got to step 11, and i was installing wads 1-18 and i got the black error screen with wierd words then i have did the part with the black screen all over again withthe part it laft off at till 18 and not System menue,
does that mean i have installed the wads?
and if i skip step 12 installing the system menue 3.2,
and install preloader then bootmii?
and can i update to 4.0 using the 4.0 updater (even tho im on 4.0 already,if i dont need to please say) from ur site or through nintendo using lan usb cable?

Always start from Step 1. Do not skip any steps unless it is noted in the guide

Dont skip any steps. The safest bet is to start from step 1 even though youve already done some things before.

It seems that newer Wiis freeze when installing multiple WADs and I dont know the reason.
What you did is the right method, redo the one that froze and continue. you should have all the WADs installed correctly
If you are already on 4.0 and you installed all of those WADs then you should be safe to install preloader and use any other homebrew
You do not need to run Waninkoko's Updater and it will remove cios60 so do not do that
updating from Nintendo will also remove cios60 and install the newer IOS versions of 1-18 which you also do not want

thanks sooooo much assassda im gana try it out now but is there anything i should watch out for when installing preloader?

assassda

1) i installed preloader and finished now im playing backup launcher, i have 4 burned games, mario kart , carnival games, wii play , and mario and sonic at the olympics. mario kart and carnival games workv perfectly but wii play and mario and sonic at the olympics give me black screen when i save or i am about to play the game.
is it a glitch? or a bad copy? or bad source?
(i get em all from same thread)

is there a way to fix this?

2) i would like to install cioscorp but i cant do cioscorp wad from softmii package because i have preloader and bootmii boot2 both installed.
so is there another way of getting the wads?
