TX Announces SX OS v2.2 BETA with Docked USB Drive Support

It's only been a week since Team-Xecuter made the big announcement of SX OS v2.1 with their 'cheat engine'

SXOS22.jpg

And now they are back and on a roll with them adding 'Docked USB Drive Support' and many other nice improvements to their 'cheat engine' and a few bug fixes! :)
How do you do, dear SX OS users?

Today we are back once again with a much anticipated new feature as well as various improvements to existing functionality for SX OS. While this is still labelled as BETA we've had some good success with it internally, we're looking forward to your feedback.

Lets jump into the list of changes!
  • Docked USB drive support!
Yes. You read it right. You can now plug a USB mass storage device into your switch' dock and load XCI or install NSP content from there directly. No longer are you limited by the size of your microSD card when playing the switch from the comfort of your couch, but you can now enjoy TERABYTES of content by using external harddisks and such! The filesystem on the drive needs to be either FAT32 or exFAT, and the directories that are being scanned for content are equal to the ones you'd use on the microSD card.
  • Updates to the cheat system
    • More accurate progress indication during cheat search
People were reporting "freezes" during cheat searches, often times these were just due to impatience and a suboptimal UI from our end. The progress bars are more honest and update more frequently now!
    • Cheat search for exact value requires no initial dump anymore
For 'exact value' searches a big initial dump file on your microSD is not needed, and since this is often the way people start a cheat search we decided to streamline the cheat finder process a bit. You are now prompted with a question whether you want to start an exact value search or arbitrary value search, in case of the former the process will be much faster.
    • Automatically apply/disable cheats upon toggle
The interface for "applying" the cheats was a bit counterintuitive, you now no longer have to press the plus (+) button in order to apply cheats. They are automatically applied/disabled once you toggle them. Disabling cheats now properly works as well, so there's no need for having a dummy cheat any more to work around that limitation.
    • Ability to add cheats using the UI
Identifying memory locations for cheats using just the console is nice, but previously there was no way of adding an actual cheat-code for a location you found to the cheat code library. This has been addressed, and there is now an interface for doing this directly from our menu.
  • Show homebrew NSP icons in TX menu
Some homebrew NSP titles were not displaying their icons properly. This has been investigated and fixed.
  • Fix error 2345-0021 when in docked mode opening TX menu
People who play/cheat in docked mode will like this fix. The frequent crashes that happened when opening the TX menu in docked mode are now a thing of the past!
That's it folks. Enjoy this BETA and let us know what you think. We have more tricks up our sleeves, more rabbits in our tophats. And we only have one gear: FORWARD.

I've had issues even on laptops with anything more than 5400rpm external. Also on some PCs the front ports are not fully powered, so switching to a rear port helps. People that are having problems not using a Y-cable are most likely using 7200rpm drives.

You sure ? I saw somebody had problems when he used it as a gpt drive but when he formatted it to MBR he could use 4tb
This makes no sense, something else was going on.
This makes no sense unless there isn't full gpt support in horizon.

My 4tb drive no work but my 256gb work purrfect in portable mode

So now I need a homebrew that lets me see the usb files and we need to find out does this help with load times of both larger games and homebrew...so exciting

Hi
I have try with 2 different thumb drive in all 3 USB port on the dock and it won't work when I put my xci file into
\switch\xci
\sxos\xci
It only work when I put my xci file directly in the root of the thumb drive
It's nice to see this great addition to the sxos
This is just a little bug that must be fix in the next official version

Would you be able to run windows disk management or cfdisk or something if you're on linux, and check if your 4tb is gpt or mbr, and if it's gpt it will have an option to convert it to mbr, and see if it works.
Or don't, I don't gaf.

The option to convert to MBR will be greyed out until they remove the current partition. Once converted to mbr they will be left with a drive that has two partitions on it but only the first 2tb of the drive are usable.

well guess it doesn't really work above 2tb then

That would be correct. Until someone figures out how to replace the file system driver on the system. Not sure if this can be done on the fly/patched while the system is running or a full CFW will be needed. The wii required a cIOS to be able to use NTFS or any other file system not natively supported and the PS3 required full CFW. So it may not be an easy task unless certain modules can be replaced that would allow GPT disk types. Only time will tell.

So if you make 2x2TB volumes, does the switch see them? Has anyone tried plugging in multiple drives? What happens?

No, you can only use 2tb of the drive when MBR is chosen as the disk type. The rest of the space just remains RAW space and is unusable.

I just tried two drives and it will only pick up which ever one was plugged in first.

If its below 1TB should be :)

Hey WiiUGold or anyone, a couple questions please:

Are you using a SSD or HDD ??

And right now you can only use a External HD 1TB or lower, is it because its a Beta version and that could change?

Thanks

The external HD LED blinks all the time ... is this normal?

It's a 2.5 case with laptop 1.5tb hard drive.

How many times are people going to ask the same question?

Reading comprehension is a thing of the past. Even if they did read the answer I'm sure they would still ask the question. I'm done feeding people for now and putting my spoon away! I'm sure when I check this thread in the morning the same question will be asked at least 20 more times.

2tb or less formatted to fat32 or exfat. powered hdd is recommended for now as some people have claimed to have burned their usb ports. I recommend powered hdd's because I had issues with the wiiu and self powered hdd's. So the switch may have similar issues.
