Hacking Tutorial to using USB Loader v1.1 and FAQs

hi there,

I've use my 160Gb external drive... work great, but i'm asking if there is a way to "rename" or add the feature to rename the name of the backup?

I don't like some few game, like "EA | Boogie".... I want to rename the game to only "Boogie"... I don't want to format again by mistake (i'm a expert for that... duh) my hard disk, I already transfert 8 backup...

Thanks alot!

Nice guide working great with my WD passport drive

. Question. When is the best time to remove the disc after its been copied? I ejected the disc after it was finished copying and it locked my wii up. Simple reboot and all it ok. So how/when do you guys remove the just copied disc to prepare for another one?

edit: I just exited back to wii menu...then eject disc then restart usb loader...no lock ups.....

I made a partition of 455 gigs on my 1T HD. WBFS works fine on my PC with the tool, but when I try to load games on my wii, nothing shows up. USB loader starts, but the game titles are invisible(I think). I am able to scroll through an invisible list and given the option to start a game, but nothing happens when I try to load it. My wii's dvd reader is pretty much broken, by the way. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

So the reason everyone wants to do this is to have a bunch of Wii games in one device and loads times are faster?

Yep. That's the idea... play any game from our collections without having to get up and have faster load times.

I've got 14 games loaded on my small external connected to the Wii and I am only using about 32GB out of the available 372GB.

As I get new games, I'll rip them to the hdd and stick the game on my shelf.

please help me, I use WBFS tool by kwirk to convert into WBFS then add iso through WBFS tool but still, I got problem to play this converted iso using USB loader, it says error usb subsytem ret-1, any suggstions? I use kingston 8GB flashdisk, tq in advance

Possibly a stupid noob question but ... does the USB loader mean, that technically, soft mods and mod chips are not required anymore ?

[ Other than copying backups to the HDD where presumably I'll still use the mod chip ]

Also, if I have so far been using Starfall and/or my Wiikey to block updates on my backups ... do I need to run "update blocker" on all the iso's before saving them to the HDD ?

I've followed the steps(installing the WAD and Network install of Rev9), but when running the USB Loader I get the following message:

*Error: Custom IOS could not be loaded (ret = -4100)

I have System Menu 4.0, and have not installed a cIOS before now. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I got this to work on a drive with a second partition pretty easily. I just booted my computer with the "GParted live cd" (Google it), then I took away 20GB from the main partition of my USB HDD and formatted the unallocated space as FAT32 (I dunno if this was necessary or not, but I did it anyways so I wouldn't have to format it later.) Then I formatted the partition as WBFS with the loader and it worked just fine.

Hi guys,

I've read through this topic and haven't seen my problem pass by before.

I'm on a 3.4E system with nothing but the Twilight Hack and the homebrew channel installed (so no downgrade or other wad things). Now when I copy over the installer and the rev 9 wad and try to install it I get error -2011. Anyone has an idea of what this could be? Because every tutorial I read only says that you need homebrew installed for this to work.....

-Error This is Not a Wii Disc-

I've already asked this many times on other forums but nobody ever replies. The majority of my Wii games cannot be installed to my USB External Hard Drive because i continually get the error - THIS IS NOT A WII DISC. Presumably this has something to do with the fact that I ran the isos through the backup-creator application on my Laptop before I burned them because Scrubbed or 1:1 copies that I didn't patch via the backup-creator will install fine. I know in the FAQ you mention that if the error says 'Wii Game Is Ivalid" then clean the disc or do a fresh burn...but i don't think that's the same as an error which flat-out says that the disc isn't a wii disc. Does anyone know why I can't install these isos that i ran through the backup-loader and is it something that might be fixed in future versions of the USB Loader.

Thank You

Well. Have you been able to place isos on your partition via PC? That's the problem. I've got everything working at the moment except for that.

Yes I have, I installed SSBB DVD9 just fine. Did you try assigning it a drive letter in windows?

Actually yes. It asks to repartition the space or make a new logical partition out of it...

You can rip back ups with the loader.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes it is possible to rip backups using the USB Loader or the WBFS tool for windows/linux. However, this has only worked on 1:1/scrubbed backups that I DIDN'T patch using the backup-creator application. Any game that I patched through the backup-creator application on my Laptop fails to install, I just keep getting the error message "THIS IS NOT A WII DISC". We've had video patches, a WBFS tool for windows and solutions to other errors that occur in the loader, so I'm just looking for a solution to this one as well....can't anyone at least confirm that they have had a similar problem or explain why the discs are not recognised?
