I am doing SD2Vita stuff and was trying to back up my memory card. I might've goofed and backed up my card with the "content manager assistant" first off the restore failed, which doesn't bother me that much, the issue is now i get the "You must update the system software" message everything I boot up the vita, and the "to use the memory card you must update the system software" message after the initial message. What can I do to get rid of this message and have my memory card work again? besides formatting?

You restored to what?

You should delete the id.dat in the root of the card (normally hidden outside of vitashell), which of course is a little difficult if you're thinking of a real vita card (in system settings > henkaku there is a dedicated tool, but it requires the card to be mounted first...)

I was restoring a backup of my old 32 gb card onto a new 256 gb sd card. Although as I was maybe 10 percent throw the back up process I got an error, I shut off the system and when I rebooted the sd was no longer read, only the internal memory and I got that message, I assume I have to isntall vita shell now and somehow find that id.dat file through my pc right?

Just put the microsd card back in your PC (with the console fully off!), enable hidden and system files if you use windows, and you'll see it!

problem is I need to use my old memory card to redue everything, I get the "to use the memory card you must update the system software" message. Im now trying to delete the id.dat file from my old memory card but obviously i cant even view it in any way. Cant install vita shell on a card that is blocked to view the card itself molecularShell. its liek a catch 22 :(

I just wiped it and manually backed it up using vitashell (dragged an older back from my pc) WARNING, DO NOT USE SONY CONTENT MANAGER. I was pretty nooby. Apparently you need to at least patch content manager from connecting to the internet otherwise it will disable your memory card.

They haslve dedicated on board chips that aren't tweaked like x64/x32 afaik
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
but its a custom os for both of them
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
    designed for only specific hardware
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
so you have to learn to emulate that specific hardware which isn't as easy as you'd think
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It's a locked down Linux distro basically
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think the only custom hardware is to do with the SSD and a security chip
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Probably combined in one chip
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They place married security chips onto boards iirc

I honestly can't recommend any of the big 3 this years I'd say buy a rog ally z1 if we're being honest

Honestly after the PS3 and 360 I just went full PC

Every games basically cross platform they only have about 6 titles making it worth the $600 price tag
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Didn't see much need for a console, all the advantages have kind of disappeared
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
the ps3 used to support installing linux because the cpu was so powerful
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Then the games are $70 and they want to reboot and refresh the same game every year
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
The ps3 was always Linux they just found a way to make it open source
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
I'm avoiding buying from the big 3 at all atm
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
At one point PC game pads where poorly supported, loading a game had setup, it was complicated. Now it's almost as easy as a console.

nintendo needs to up their game soon
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah even bt support for Xbox one controllers are just as easy as pairing
    +1

considering the steamdeck can emulate the switch (yikes) theres almost 0 reason to buy the switch apart from playing online and using cartridges

Xinput and 360 dongles were a driver nightmare
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I remember having to manually put in drivers and what not
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Yeah the 360 dongles sucked
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
But the new Xbox pads? PIr it up and if a game supports it it just works
