Yay! I got it working! I opened it back up earlier tonight and it turns out that the wire for one of my smaller points wasn't quite making contact with the pad on the Wiikey. It was soldered well onto the Wii circuitboard, but wasn't making solid contact with the chip. I applied a little more solder to to seal it down, re-assembled the unit, then it read my DVR's just fine!
I actually can't get my Memorex discs to work and those were what I worked with originally, but the other media I bought (the sony, maxell, and staples brand) all work fine. So it wasn't a waste of time buying all the new media after all. I feel a little stupid that it was something so simple, but I'm relieved and happy that its working.
