Hacking Transferring saves

Hi, so i just installed a game I backed up from my original disc and the save is not there. The game works and i can make a new save, but the original save is on the internal system memory. trying to copy it to the USB drive did overwrite and deleted my game. I re-installed it and the save is gone so...How can I transfer the save? what am I missing here?
also, google gave me only results of the "transfer tool" for the 3ds. thanks

You dun goofed. If you want to install a game off your disc, you first need to make sure that the save file is on the same storage device (NAND or USB) that you're installing the game to.
You deleted your save file. Learn from your mistake.

I did the same ,but with a update that I moved to the usb drive that contained the game and it deleted the game.
