Hacking Total Noob. Really. Help.

So, I got my hands on a DS Lite and an R4i SDHC card. It's the one with the silver box and all that.

It came with stuff like HeartGold and DQV, and a few others that have that lovely AP stuff. I look up the ways to bypass them, but when I connect the Micro SD card to my computer, the file system is totally different, so I don't even know if I'm doing this right.

It's a tall order, I know, but if there's someone out there that can offer advice through messages, I just want to make sure my R4 Card is at the most recent version, that I know how to properly update cheats, how to pass by the AP stuff, all that. I really don't know what I'm doing.

I do see that the system says SDHC V1.18

So I dunno... I really find myself lost.

umm yea. If it's not there on the card, it'll be there on the box you have.

For the firmware just check this page regularly. just download an copy the firmware to your card if there's a new one out.

Download the DS scene rom tool . It'll download the cheat database file (usrcheat.dat) for you as a rar file then you'll have to replace it with usrcheat.dat on your card. It shows you if there's new cheats.
And for the AP, you can patch the game with DS scene rom tool itself.

alrighty, I figured on that, but wanted to be sure. Either way, good to make a backup of what's on the MicroSD card, right?

And I think I figured it out... I'm not upgrading DS firmware, I'm upgrading the card firmware. Yes, I'm a moron.

keep your old firmware and use the retro gamefan multicart update.....its is updated regularly and it supports all recent games and contains cheats
