I guess they figure it (the screen protectors) would be same price if included with the 3DS as without and everyone may not use them or the foam would be good enough.

Lol that would be so sad on their part but I guess they finally found a way to make more money with their extra products.

It's about $9.99 for:
-Top and bottom screen protectors
-3 Stylus'
-Cloth
-A bunch of small 3DS game cases (2 singles and one that holds 4)
Which isn't expensive but is still another expense.
I'm sure they could've included screen protectors with the system though....
Yeah, including screen protectors is the least they could have done. I would have just bought them myself but I dislike them because:

1.They attract filth around the edges.
2.They dim the screen.
3.They just look cheesy.

Just my opinion, but I've tried them before on the DS and ended up ripping them off for the above reasons. I think I'll just use the foam insert for the meantime.

I agree and I actually did the same with some extra SP's I had for my DSL and took them off for similar reasons. I have some of the foam the 3DS was wrapped in ripped and placed inside. It works for now but I just can't stand looking at it :-\

. I found my cleaning cloth as well.

I think the ones that comes in sets are not as good as ones by themselves.

Not like other DS' was scratch poof.

For such an expensive, high-tech system system, isn't it sad we have to resort to these ghetto solutions.

Yes this happens, and I can't believe no-one at Nintendo noticed before release, as it is such an obvious problem.

Hi, I put screen protectors on immediately after purchase so I did not notice any marking before, but after some use, I just examined my screen and there are 2 streaks clearly indicating contact between the screens. This is an embarassing blunder from Nintendo, but I am certain they will take care of this issue. I have personally experienced their history of quality costumer service over the years spanning from the original Game Boy to the DS.

I'm not going out of my way to provide a full response to your post while you insist on ridiculing me in a childish way. Sarcasm and arrogance don't make you look smart; they make it look like you're taking this personally. If you want me to construct an adequate reply to your last post (which I am more than happy to do), go back and remove all instances of the aforesaid. Don't expect me to waste my time squabbling with you if you're not willing to display any respect in a mature debate.

IDK what you are talking about. I just simply reply to you post and try to get my point across.
It seem to me you are the one taking it personally.

Someone like to throw this term around on the forum.

Psychological projection

Warranty with all 3DS has shouldn't be greatly put down because of this one flaw.

I put the screen protector the first time I buy it. Now, the line on the screen protector's top screen is starting to show up (both left and right). I can wipe out it with a microfiber cloth, but lately, it still shows up. I just hope it just on the screen protector and doesn't damage my top screen at all. I can't claim my warranty since Nintendo product doesn't officially come in to my country. I buy it as an import product. Sigh.... Hope I am not screwed....

Because the 3DS has a flaw it doesn't mean it is crappy... Everything has at least one flaw... We should not get upset by it, but Nintendo has to fix it because paying 270 euros is a pretty big price tag for a handheld... My 3DS deserves every last penny I payed, but this scratch on the 3D screen is PISSING me off!!!

ATM I'm putting my cleaning cloth from the HG/SS accessory pack between the screens. Protects the top screen from being scratched and lets me easily clean the screen while I'm out :-D

I'm doing the same thing. Just make sure you don't rub the color on your slide pad...

This is a good idea. Also, I wanted to say thanks to the original poster. I meant to pick up screen protectors when I got my 3DS, but forgot. I got home and remembered right away, but didn't really have a sense of urgency about getting them. Because I read this post, I checked my 3DS to see two distinct lines where the bottom screen is coming in contact with the top. Mine wiped off with a cloth. I bought my system less than a week ago, and have carried it in my pocket only twice. Both times I used my old protective case from my DS lite. I still have the foam insert, and put that in place for now, but will likely be buying screen protectors tomorrow.

I don't think the damage really comes from having it in your pocket unless you have tight pockets. I noticed that mine really snaps shut if I'm not very careful in shutting it. I think that momentary snap being repeated many times will do more in the long run. I just hope screen protectors help keep this from becoming an issue. :/

I called Nintendo service center twice today, spoke to two different men about my screen being scratched and they both said they have not heard about this happening and any screen damage sent for repair incurs up to £50 charge!
I told them it is a design flaw but they wouldnt agree. Apparently they have seen hundreds of units and have never had this problem reported and it is likely MY FAULT!?
How is it my fault that the product I baught scratches itself?
I treat my 3DS like a baby, I look after it soooooo well. At first I could clean it but now it looks permanent and I cant clean it off.
It is clealy where the bottom screen touches the top screen and has made a defined uncleanable, perfecly straight line down the right side of my 3DS 3D screen.
I already paid £200, how is it fair that I pay more for a problem with the design?
What are my rights?

I've never had it scratched, but often when I open it there are two little rainbow stripes where the contact has been made caused by a bit of grease/liquid (condesation maybe?) where the edges of the smaller bottom screen touch the top. Usually just wipe it off with my finger, never had any lasting mark. Never had a screen protector for my DS Phat, DS Lite or DSi and never had a mark on them, kind of think screen protectors are a bit of a scam on the paranoid to be honest. Surely they look a bit crummy, trap dust etc udnerneath and lessen your viewing pleasure?

Ask to speak to a supervisor. Explain your situation to him/her. Worse comes to worse you can move up the chain o' command. When I lost my XBox Live account (accidentally deleted synced Windows Live account), I had to write a letter to the VP of XBox Live just to have someone take my problem seriously.

I have called again in hope of speaking to somebody half decent and I did. The guy was very helpful but said they have to say they dont know about it as its an overlooked Nintendo design fault and its only a small problem! he said he would help me though but the service team would 'look' at my 3DS and they would have to decide what to do when they get it. He said I may just get the whole thing back as I sent it.

I'm really annoyed at this. Frustrated and peeved to say the least. This is the first time the service team have not been able to promise a fix for anything for me (had dsi with bad shoulder buttons but they replaced it) and it is a worrying sign of things to come.
I am so angry and I have found my reciept from Asda, £197... I think I'm going to go and get my money back. Besides I'm already bored of SSFIV, nearly completed Ridge Racer, got Nintendogs to feed my new game needs but it falls short.
DAMN YOU NINTENDO! yep...f**k it, taking it back tonight. I may get a new one when more games are out and they fix this problem. It will only keep happening with this design.

...and I was so close to seeing the update...

This problem will cease to be ignored by Nintendo when the class-action paperwork starts being served in the United States -- I promise. These people you've spoken with are just playing dumb to avoid any liability in the meantime -- Nintendo's surly programmed them to say those things you've heard. Still, I would just go ahead and eliminate risk and return the thing as you're already about to do. It sucks that you have to lose all of your streetpass data, though.
