So, I got it to work, turns out if you have the programs the OP states to install, still crashes, but if you are quick enough, you'll be able to write body color, and it will crash after write. So you can re-open the program, and do the button colors, OP if you reading my comment, you should add my reply to the post to help others. And thank you so much for this tool.

Normally most VM software allows you to pass-through usb devices.
I'm doing this all the time with VirtualBox with windows host and ubuntu as guest
Yeah I use the passthrough quite a bit for my guitar amps, the issue is my bluetooth module is built in so I can't pass it through USB.

It looks very usefull but I can't use it: it crashes at startup.
I have Windows 8.1 x64
.net framework 4.5 is installed
C++ redist 2015 (x86) is also installed
I also tried to restart my computer.

Someone has an idea?

Don't feel bad, I'm in the same boat. I have no idea what the problem is.

Is this program supposed to crash after you dump the SPI? Because right after dumping my left joy-con it crashed, Joy-con Toolkit.exe has stopped working. Did it dump correctly? It's a 512kb file.
Mine never crashes. 512 kB is correct, so it probably dumped fine.

To all that have crashes, install also visual c++ 2015 x86 redistributable.
If you installed any dll by hand, remove it.

Sorry about that. I updated OP.

I have all the right stuff installed and I'm still crashing on startup. :(

Edit: I don't know what I did. But it's working now. I thought there was an issue with the .net Fx so I used a tool to uninstall them. However once done, I reset my computer and went to reinstall 4.5.1 but it said it was already installed? So i repaired the joycon and the installation process for the joycon took longer than usual, but once it paired the program started up! Dumping SPI now :)

Some things from my experiences with this app:
Plugging in Pro Controller via USB kills the app. You MUST use Bluetooth.
The S/N, FW Version, and MAC Address seem to just be random upon opening the app. Could be me, but not too sure. I doubt thay my S/N contains: ÿ
The SPI backup feels unreliable with the previous issue.
App likes to crash... a lot.

But good job making the app! Hopefully the bugs that have been mentioned by others can be fixed. Thank you very much for this tool!
Also, how do you restore your backup? And does anyone have the Pro Controller Body Color hex?

My Joy Cons are originally Grey and I replaced the outer shells so this tool helped me a lot!

Good job Man!

I changed mine the hard way months ago, but this tool is SOOO MUCH EASIER. Made updating my reshelled Neon Yellows with the official body color super fast (even with the app crashing about 5 times before I was finished).

I made the Body Color Dark Gray (not Official gray color) because black would almost be invisible.

So since it's crashing at startup, I tried to debug with Visual Studio, and it says that it's a "System.AccessViolationException" exception. Maybe it can help (I hope)

I updated OP, so please read carefully the warning! Beware when using it with pro controller. Also the net framework needed is 4.5.2

When it's possible I'll try to make it more compatible with all windows setups.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
