Do anyone like playing games, where it involve the use of touch screen only and the digital buttons are really just useless. For example "Harvest Moon Island of Happiness (Everything is done by touch screen), "Zelda Phantom of Hourglass (I think everything needed touchscreen too if I remembered correctly), etc.

Yeah so I just want to hear people's opinion as most DS game does that and I don't think they do it just to tease us, so just wanted to know is it just me that hates the overuse of touch screen.

You can play "Harvest Moon DS: Sunshine Islands", you don't have to use the stylus (for NOTHING!

) and it's the best Harvest moon game on the DS.

Yeah, I agree with you, sometimes it pisses me off. There are some "touch-screen only" games that I love such as Feel the magic, Rub the rabbits, Ouendan etc but I hate when you have to use the touch screen on games like Zelda. How in hell they will make the d-pad useless on an action/adventure game?

Know a game that takes this to the limit? Scribblenauts. It's despairing to build a puzzle for 10 minutes only to have your character jump into a pit out of the blue because the developers wanted to make it all stylus-driven instead of making the game PLAY CORRECTLY.

If it works, fine, I don't care.
I'm just sick of developers seeing a gimmick and using it when it isn't necessary.
This has ruined many DS and Wii games for me.

I agree with you, like that Metroid game on DS where it needs you to tap Samus to do that spinning jump thing, despite they can just make it into a button, because during that game i find myself switching alot.

Well, basically, it's not an overuse of the touch screen because that's what the system was designed for. It was specifically designed to use a touchable screen, and many developers take advantage of it. Granted, some developers make games that use both the buttons and the touch screen, but half the time that isn't bad. It works well in games like Dementium, StarFox Command, or Metroid Prime Hunters.

Other games don't pull off a touch screen and button combination, though, and that's why we have Imagine games.

Generally, if I can get by without using the touchscreen, I would rather do so.
Certain touch-only games are great, (Rhythm Heaven) but most of the DS games I've truly enjoyed require no stylus at all.

I didn't mind the full use of the touch screen for Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, but I wouldn't have minded alternative button controls, not counting button hacks.

if the ds games would't make use of the touchscreen so why should the ds have a second screen with touch function anyway, so nintendo could just have made a psp related next gen gameboy with high end graphics:. you might be not wrong that there are games in which a button controle scheme would fit better but the examples you've mentioned in your post don't belong to em', the touch screen isn't overdone in the zelda ph/ st or harvest moon, it might be that the controlings just don't satisfy everybodies taste, but that don't mean that it isn't good, rather contrary it is quite comfortable:. for me personally i often have the situation that i just are too lazy to hold my ds, but although it is lying on the table i am able to handle the situation in a good functioning way.
a game additional button controls would be welcome is scribblenauts, because it really isn't optimal

I can't contribute a lot to this discussion: I agree with what most have said: Touch is good when done right and has buttons as options (if it is possible, not like ouendan

)..
touch + buttons in an FPS is awesome! and I like to use L button in Zelda to use items, instead of clicking on the item once, and then use

and As everyone has said: Touch controlls for the heck of it = no, bad developer! No cookie!

I find it works rather well for the DS. Dementium II will supposedly have way better touch controls.

Although some physical buttons are necessary on a lot of games. Pressing one button in the Zelda games to do something is refreshing.

No one is saying the DS shouldn't have a touchscreen. We're saying making gimmicky crap games because of it is happening too much. Zelda and Starfox were ruined for me because some idiot thought it'd be a great idea to have forced Touch-only. Super mario 64 was really well done because you were given a choice, and even if you did play sans buttons, (for the most part) the configuration was done well. I was hoping they'd do likewise for Starfox Command, but noooooo, Fortunately lazy people can enjoy that POS while not even having to hold the DS in their hand, so it's all good.

I don't like it when they make you use the d-pad and touch screen and the same time, like in metroid. It always makes my wrist hurt after playing.
