Hello!

I’m an experienced independant electronics repair technician and console modder, and I have been hardmodding consoles for quite a while to make some extra money and simply for the fun of it. Most of my clients so far have come through word of mouth, friends of friends, or through a local online marketplace.

Unfortunately, that marketplace recently stopped allowing people to advertise these kinds of services, so I’m now looking for another way to offer my modding services online, ideally as a mail-in service where customers can ship me their consoles and I send them back once the work is done.

The problem is that most marketplaces I’ve checked seem to prohibit Switch modchip installation services.

Does anyone know of a good platform for this kind of work?

I don’t have much experience with setting up an online business, so any advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Can't be going around adversting it or Nintedo come after you.

I see local hardware repair shops advertising these services directly on their own websites, so I highly doubt anyone really cares beyond online platforms potentially taking down your store

The last time I remember Nintendo going after anyone in France was back in 2011 over Nintendo DS flashcarts, and that involved people importing and selling them in large quantities. No one has ever been attacked for simply installing modchips, atleast here and as far as i know.

Modders on this site gotten cease and desist order, I mean if they send you one and you don't stop next step is lawsuit.

As far as I know there haven't been any such cases in France. Nintendo mostly just pressures websites and platforms to remove modchipping services lol

But yeah even if they did come after you, I guess you could simply stop offering the service

In France we literally have hardware repair shops openly advertising modchipping services in their stores, nobody seems to care

I've noticed too. I've dropped using anything wording wise to do with modding or picofly. I might mention thermal paste types and the No stick drift TMR upgrade. To give an idea of something happened. I make clear I don't offer it setup, but I am under presumption that the SD card setup ones sell quicker. Locally I don't get any bites. I'm almost as Rural as you could be in USA. I refuse to use facebook. I straight up buy switches reshell them make sure everything translated great then slap a chip on. If I bricked someones console doing this I offer no way to recover files currently. And quite frankly I wouldn't feel bad. I've done 7 no issues so far.
I have an alternative to the 'online market places' . Which is making a website on Wordpress. Something like 3$USD a month. Sites with web builders installed are $12 USD or more. But the issue with this is advertising. Which I can't quite figure out.

Anyway thinking about this I think there was a Modder Alias.

So With this is why I don't offer SD cards with it, I feel yes I offer the chip but what the End user does is what the end user does. I don't think backing up your games is wrong. Unfortunately in the day and age we're in, it's encouraged. Sony is doing just as much crazy sh@t as Nintendo.Modder HAMMERED BY Nintendo

Yeah i see...

I'm thinking about building my own website but yeah advertising is the hardest part

That sucks. I'm addicted to soldering, i wish it was easier to find customers.

You could start by investing in filming the process and in high quality photos. It's easy for anyone to say they can do xyz but showing is where the money's at. Build some trust with people on the downlow since it is a gray area these days.

I’m already doing this, and I’ve built a very good local reputation for myself. But it’s way too limited. Since I can’t advertise my services on my local marketplace anymore, I’ve basically been relying on word of mouth and friends of friends.

I have microscope footage and high-quality pictures of my work, but at this point I honestly have no idea where I’m supposed to advertise lol.

Good to see, you'd be surprised the amount of people that say things but never have the ability to back it up.

So the filming process you're looking at, is a few hundred bucks to setup. And you still have the advertising issue. And then really, someone with an AI tool for less than a modder filming setup, has potential to out-do the regular person via Videos. We won't even mention time.

And i'm going to say. Your average joe who wants a mod chipped console, won't give two cents about watching a video of their system being worked on. Society can even set up their own controls for emulation.

It's a suggestion because platforms like YouTube gather attention for it. You could probably find a cheapo microscope soldering station on aliexpress but not entirely needed. Videos are king.

This is exactly the service that I'm looking for but the idea also terrifies me

I can't afford to lose my Switch and shipping to France must be astronomical
