Titanfall delisted following struggle with DDoS attacks

If you want to pick up Titanfall 1 digitally, you can't do so anymore; Respawn and EA have suddenly taken the game down from digital storefronts. Giving fans less than a day's notice, it was removed from sale without any specific reason, with Titanfall to also be removed from subscription services such as EA Play and Game Pass Ultimate on March 1, 2022. Fortunately, servers for the game will continue to stay up for the remaining owners. While Respawn didn't say exactly why Titanfall was delisted, the game has been suffering DDoS attacks from hackers for years now that have rendered it unplayable for many, with issues being especially prevalent throughout the last few months.

The 1st one? Was it still active after all these years? Though these guys should definitely DDoS the new Battlefield game! Just to mess with \EA/

Well, at least they finally stopped selling an unplayable game, I guess. However that's the absolute bare minimum they could do. This issue has been going on for quite a while. A youtube channel called Upper Echelon Gamers has reported on this situation several times this year. It even spread into Apex Legends, and while Respawn/EA won't do fuck all for Titanfall and Titanfall 2, you bet your ass they called in everyone on vacation to get Apex Legends fixed asap.

Here's a link to the YouTube playlist of the videos I was talking about. If you have an hour and have some interest in this story, I recommend watching it. It's 6 videos, each one less than 20 minutes.

I just want to know the person who sat down and thought to themselves "You know what, I should Ddos the first Titanfall game"

The videos mentioned above do go into some speculation there, it being a potentially spurned insider after a fashion. Also seemed to be a bit less "thousands of zombie computers and their bandwidth" and more of a specialist thing aimed at the game to effect the same result -- dumb brute force can be blocked just as trivially*, specialist packets that take advantage of a flawed program level protocol, different matter entirely.

*one of the guys from cloudflare on what goes for that one, and a nice general overview of the approaches available

More like charging for subpar online services, overall.
Well yeah.
Nintendo should always of marketed the Free Online aspect of the Wii, U & 3DS. It's unfair to charge the many people who buy the console primarily for Mario Kart, it's led to me not using the switch I was gifted in December 19, I have the Mario kart code unscratched & Zelda which I've played through but that's it, console still on stock fw because of the pay barrier I refuse to accept, I just play wiiu mk8 instead.
