So I watched the infamous YouTube video "Will a 3DS game run on my DS?" today. Obviously the person (who inserted Steeldivers Sub Wars) found out that the game didn't load. But then I thought about this game I had a long time ago, Cars 2 for the DS. There was a 3DS port, and it was exactly the same. It had no 3D, no enhancements as far as I know, so... Would that run?

The games are in different formats. It’s literally just that. My next door neighbor can only read English, but I can read English and Arabic. My neighbor is the DS, and I’m the 3DS.

Absolutely not.

Different hardware, different memory maps, different everything.
Games can only get ported, and a port from 3ds to DS would require draconian downgraded assets and code to maybe run and look remotely close to the original game.
