    Hello everyone,

I'm probably unknown here or a nobody, but I do frequently visit this forum from time to time. I only comment or post something when I feel like it hence my post count being not very high. The 3DS scene is currently very active, and there are far too many developers and I thank every single one of them for what we have now. Recently, or let's say it's been at least a few months now, this forum is being flooded with so many members shit-posting on almost every single thread. It's either trolls or whiners who can't seem to control themselves for some odd reason, or regular members bashing newbies who ask questions. Yes I know those questions are already answered if they searched good enough, but you do not need to lash out on them, you could simply ignore them or you could direct them towards a section of the forum that already answered their question.

I think it's safe to conclude that we need more moderators to moderate this forum. I understand that every one of them is busy with real life duties and commitments, and so I do not blame them for this chaos being caused by members who think they can do anything they want on the Internet, because it's virtual, and they can get away with it. Well.. they shouldn't. It's simple, these set of extra moderators, can enforce these rules, and start getting rid of members plaguing this forum with their non sense.

Allow me to use this opportunity to thank everyone who's been helpful by writing tutorials, developing for X console/handheld and to anyone who answered my questions before. :)

Anyone who puts people in their places is welcome honestly. We've already lost a few developers , because of a few ungrateful members or those who feel the need to bash developers; thinking that it's cool.

Yeah, the forum nearly tripled in traffic in January due to the downgrade hax and a9lh is making sure the traffic stays heavy.
Not a single extra mod was "hired" to compensate.

Not my problem, but I feel sorry for the mods that are here because they're clearly overworked and overburdened.

I wouldn't describe the current state of things as "chaos". People will whine but it's not like adding a whole host of more moderators will fix that. The damage is done regardless of whether or not the person who whined is later banned. Besides, if mods were to start hammering the banhammer on anyone who whines in a thread, over half the site would be gone in one fell swoop, and GBAtemp would then get the reputation of a land of evil tyrants. That exact scenario happened a few months ago when a few shitposters were banned and a large portion of the site ganged up on one mod who was simply doing his job.

And it's not like developers stop developing because of people whining, and if they do then TBH they are huge babies themselves. People should learn to expect a little whining, GBAtemp isn't a perfect utopian society. And unless you want Soviet Russian GBAtemp where anyone who comments negatively on anything gets banned, you should learn to expect whining as well. That said, we'd all love to see it go.

I second this--ever since the current, justified staff terminated the membership of Tempers; some of them have been raiding the 'Temp and been spamming everywhere (as they have nothing better to do or actually act their ages) and the response to this has been quick but not quick enough that would remove these posts. Not only this, the 3DS and Wii U section have required serious moderation (which is done), but if there were more; it would help out the staff here and will contribute to making this an even more healthy forum.

In my opinion, if @VinsCool is willing for a moderation position; he should be elected as one of the moderators of the Temp because he maturely responds to situations here and is helpful to several members of the forum. Not only this; BinsKewl has kept his cool and didn't turn into the 12 year olds who were making him uncomfortable with the "trends" that have been started here (VinsCool didn't necessarily start those, by the way).

EDIT: Yeah, as the above posters said; at least adding one or two staff members who are active would be nice.

Fair enough, but an extra few moderators with different time-zones would easily solve these issues

Adding more moderators will ensure that we do not have EoF material in other sections or in threads where newbies ask questions. I understand sometimes they could be very dumb, but it's unnecessary for members to gang up on newbies, just because they did not use the search button or asked a question that was already answered. I never asked for the ban hammer to be dropped as soon as there is something going. Moderators are able to delete posts, warn people, and if they are persistent with their behavior, then you can ban them.

Regarding developers who use this forum, none of them quit because of whiners. In fact, it's because some members here got under their skin with their trolling behavior, and honestly that is unacceptable. We already have the EoF where members can troll each other and shit-post as much as they want.

Even if there were more moderators, it doesn't guarentee any issues would be resolved immediately. However, I'm not saying there shouldn't be more moderators. In my opinion it wouldn't hurt to have more, as long as the newest moderators were mature enough not to abuse power.

While some forums I've seen have an unwritten "don't ask to become a mod" policy, I became a mod at PP.org through an application process. The admin posted the application requirements, I PMed him, and got the job. It may be impractical here because of greater traffic, so the admins would likely have to do more work, but it's just a suggestion. For what it's worth, I'd apply to be a moderator if there was an application process, but it's up to the admins.

On the grand scale of things, any EoF material that shows up in the general sections is very quickly dealt with and deleted, considering we have quite a few frequently active mods, and tons of users who hang around all day and report things within sections of them being posted. It may seem like eternity when people are bumping trash threads and they stay open for 5 minutes, but the solution for that is for ALL tempers to simply report trash and not reply to it. Frankly, I don't think there are many tempers, if any, that could be mature enough to not abuse mod power and screw around all the time. Having a swarm of mods is pretty impossible considering that there would be a lot of people who have a swarm of troublemaker tempers surrounding them at all times becoming mods, which is obviously not ideal. Having more mods and more popular mods kind of disintegrates the integrity of the position and blurs the line between approved and shit postings.

I agree to an extent, that having immature moderators would be problematic. However, if and when an admin decides to hire a new moderator, he/she would look carefully at that user's post history, to see if the user could handle it.

Right, and my argument is that there aren't too many members who could handle it.

99% of the members are immature. I have had mods suspend me and not the troll,we have some mods that FAIL to see underlying context in posts due to what IMO is a neurological disorder that causes one to take everything literally. If we have mods with this neurological disorder they will only ban literally insults and let the one that are not literal blow right past them. We simply do not have the user base to draw competent mods from.

The admin doesn't give a shit. His website is worth 2.5million USD,he is getting his money. He could care less if pipsqueak A is banned for a bogus reason,it doesn't concern him. Do you worry about every time you blow your nose or wipe your ass? It is hard to find competent mods because the forum reeks of immaturity.

I see where you're coming from regarding members not being able to handle it, which is why you can check through a member's post history, their contributions to this forum, and temporarily give them their mod status. Observe their behavior, what they do, and how they moderate the site. If they're not content with the way he/she handles things, I am sure they can just remove the mod status, and we can all move on to the next person.

That isn't how things work here. IF you aren't in the inner circle you can forget about getting mod. Better off making your own website and working hard because it isn't going to happen.

    [̲̅$̲̅(̲̅ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°̲̅)̲̅$̲̅]
So I've got a few bits and pieces to say on the matter. On things being a mess, freaking report them. And don't just report a message with the reason "spam" or "retarded" because you don't agree with it, give me a reason why it shouldn't be there and I'll humor you. If you don't give me a reason I don't remove the message. And on more technical things, understand we don't know everything about everything. I'm JUST finally starting to catch up on the 3DS scene, the WiiU one though don't even get me started. So, if you don't give me some details to work with, the longer I have to spend researching something to know whether it should be removed or not is longer that it's sitting there, not removed, if I do anything to it at all. If you see a lot of posts that break the rules, report all of them. But give a legitimate reason as to why. If you're not maliciously abusing the report system you will never get in trouble for reporting too many things. Help us help you.

On the topic of devs leaving because they're in the kitchen but can't handle the heat, we're not here to police the forums and make them an internet safe space for everyone. We're here to make way for (usually) constructive discussions, facilitated by you, the members, and your reports. If something is blatantly hate speech or just straight up shitposting, I will remove it. If someone actually has a negative but valid argument, I will very likely leave it. WHy? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and when we start nuking threads of this and that, we start walking a fine line between "garbage cleaning" and "censorship". I can't tell you how many times people have screamed "OMG CENSORSHIP" at me. My suggestion to devs is to get used to people not liking how you do things. From there, deal with it. I've seen countless devs not able to take the heat, and I've seen countless more who take it all in stride and don't let it get them down. Take a pick on which group wind up being successful.

We're not currently looking for more moderators, we're fairly well staffed as it is. And even if we were, people of moderator quality stature are not a dime a dozen. And to top that off, they still need time to "train" and get acclimated to how everything is supposed to go. Your biggest tool to cleaning up the forum is the report button. Every single report gets read by us. We do not necessarily delete everything that gets reported, but we do make a conscious decision to take no action in that case. So like I said, if you have a problem with something, report it, and give me an actual reason of why you don't think it should be seen on this forum. Do that and you're on the way to making this a better community than it already is, the one you guys love and the one you guys want to keep coming back to.

Since when was I in "the inner circle"? I was an "in the shadows, 'just there'" guy from the start.
