thinking about buying my first switch

so the last console i bought/own was the PS4 and XBOX ONE having never owned a switch im wondering if its worth it to buy one? my last nintendo console was a Wii i dont own current gen xbox or playstation due to having a ryzen gaming pc. anyhow with the switch 2 coming out soon im thinking prices for current gen switch systems might drop im not much of a handheld gamer always afraid the systems wont feel so comfy or will hurt my hands for long play times guess im just wanting people opinions on if i should buy one or not

i do visit my mom here and there for a few days at a time i guess im just worried im missing out on some great nintendo games by not owning a switch

Absolutely worth it. It has the one of the best libraries of any console ever, and it easily hits #1 if you homebrew it.

I have an OLED but I can't use it in handheld mode because of how heavy it is, but the Lite is PERFECT [even better if you mod it with an OLED screen]. It's also like $60 used so basically the same price as a new AAA game.

If you're only looking for a docked experience, get the V1/V2/OLED. If you intend to mod it, get the OLED [modchip] or V1 [softmod]. The OLED is the better experience in terms of OC and whatnot but installing the modchip is a bit hard. V1 takes like 10 minutes to softmod.

Modding a V1 is very, very easy. You just need an RCM jig [Amazon has them] and a device to push the payload [computer or phone]. You do need to keep your device on unless you want to go through this process again, though. Maybe not an issue if it's docked all the time.

V2 is harder as it needs a modchip [microsoldering]. OLED and Lite are even harder because of Nintendo's shenanigans. These three don't need to be on all the time, though. Again, OLED is the way to go if you're looking for the absolute best experience [better OC, 4K output, etc.]. I think some places sell them pre-modded but that can get a tad expensive. Goofish is probably your best bet, I think I've seen modded Switches on there.

But if you're buying a Switch 2 then you're most likely going to need a chip, which as you may know isn't the friendliest of consoles for noobs who are just beginning with hacking their Switch.

100% agree. V1's although a bit pricey is totally worth it for the money. You can find RCM Loader devices on AliExpress for about $10 or less.

If you're not in a great hurry, waiting for sSwitch2 to hit the shelves is an option. After the release the prices of original Switch will most probably drop - even more in the unlikely event that Switch2 has early vulnerability. And price drop will probably affect the v1 Switches too.

Just wait 6 months and get a Switch 2. If you really want to play some Nintendo games now while you're visiting your mother then a used Switch Lite will give you something to do.

There's also the question of whether you want to be a good boy or a pirate. If you buy your games then you'll be able to play them on the Switch 2 when it's released. If you pirate them then you'll be waiting a few years for Switch 2 piracy. You should be able to find pre-modded Switches on certain online marketplaces. Look around.

If you have big hands then you should buy either a Satisfie Switch Grip or Hori Split Pad Joy Con.

I wasn't even thinking of having it hacked, just stock. When I get my Switch 2, I'll have my hackable V1 Erista Switch up for sale to help recoup Switch 2 costs.

Basically matching serial number of unpatched unit from this post. To be sure, go only for the serials in green, the possibly unpatched ranges are hit & miss.

Just look up Switch V1 or Switch unpatched on eBay and you'll find them. Japanese sellers are usually cheaper. As most sellers provide a serial number range, you can use this website to confirm that a Switch is, indeed, unpatched: https://ismyswitchpatched.com/.

Do keep in mind that most of them will not come with a power adapter, dock, or Joy-Cons, so you'll need to buy those separately. 3rd party Joy-Cons and Pro-Cons are fine if you don't need every feature, but 3rd party docks and chargers can fuck up your Switch, so avoid them.
