Is it a "3DS crasher" app disguised as a sonic game or what? I hadn't been able to do anything else with it yet.

Is it crashing immediately on load? If so, did you get the game files from a PC/mobile copy of the game? It can't run without those.
So is that just a dummy app? This is like buying a 3DS and having 3 parts of it missing and a note "Get those parts from another 3DS lol"

Its more what ya call ya cant have game assets on your servers or nintendos going to shit on you. theres been a lot now with decompiled games that require base files from elsewhere.

Not sure if this was already explained in the deleted messaged, but if not:
What's installed from UU is the reverse engineered and ported code, it's not just a dummy app but it does still need the assets from a real copy of the game for legality reasons.

It's very easy to get Data.rsdk and the game is free on Android so it's easy to get a copy, you just need to do that yourself. The Universal-DB page has where the files go and a link to a video on how to get it from the Android APK. Universal-Updater should've had a prompt message telling you you need the file after finishing installing, though it can be easy to miss that since it does allow you to quit the app without seeing it...
