...son of a bitch. *side smashes marker to the right and down*

Angry because you're slightly left leaning? Or angry because you're basically centrist?
How can he be a centrist when the test asks how much do you agree on certain topics?
It gives no option to consider all sides, and the test itself is designed to identify you.
He is not a centrist. His position just happens to differentiate strongly on certain issues.

I agree with you about the limited nature of the test. However, isn't it also the fault of the limited nature of the sliding scale of political labelling? Technically speaking he is still a centrist.

Saw these results coming a mile away!

Everyone here's pretty much lower left. That's the way of the internet with the "technological" crowd.
Been seeing this for a good... 7+ years. The pattern's half infallible.

Religious beliefs are easy to guess for this crowd as well.

I guess. You use the term “technically” to include all possible uses and definitions.

I guess you really wanted to shut me up.

To be honest, I don't like political labeling.
Why is NAMBLA a joke? Do we feel different on certain issues? There are certain moral principles most of us would like to keep. (i.e. I don’t support NAMBLA and I support gay marriage.) If I were to honor my label, I would support NAMBLA as well.

Had nothing to do with it. Was just showing you that he's still considered a centrist on the political sliding scale, as centrism is also defined by the way you described it. A person can be labelled simply because he reasonably averages out in choices of both left and right policies.

QUOTEWhy is NAMBLA a joke? Do we feel different on certain issues? There are certain moral principles most of us would like to keep. (i.e. I don’t support NAMBLA and I support gay marriage.) If I were to honor my label, I would support NAMBLA as well.

Which has that got to do with the price of a bag of chips? Or the discussion at hand?

You left out the sentence preceding the last quote.

I gave you a reason why I don’t like to be labeled. I think it is a valid point.

You are a left/libertarian, do you support NAMBLA? If I were to judge you based on your label, and if you said no to the previous question, could I call you a hypocrite?

I don't understand the need to label. There may be a purpose to political labeling, but how much does it contribute to state/global problems?

I didn't leave it out on purpose. lol I just couldn't remember what you said exactly as it wasn't something I was gonna respond to. I was hoping you'd go and edit it back in to be honest.

I only score left on the sliding scale because of the limited way politics is defined. It's divided into two by the powers that be in order to make division easier and when necessary turn each side into a "common enemy". Alot of my thinking lies in concepts and aspects of socialism and they're defined as left. I never said I particularly agreed with the sliding scale, but it's the tool we use and it's still interesting results. It's always interesting to see people who believe they're right wing realise they're not so right wing. It kind of helps to dispel alot of myths as well.

And I wouldn't exactly call myself a libertarian either in the way it's described. I'm all for individual freedom to earn money, I'm against corporations being able to hold too much power. all for taxing them up the arse and all for making them do more than their fair share.

And the analogy with NAMBLA is terrible. And not even the right label. That would be classified as a form of Extreme Left form of Anarchy. You have to remember that while it's a sliding scale in general each side has several schools of thought. I agree with that labelling is terrible, but only when done like that. It's a kind of easy propaganda labelling that someone like Fox News would use.

And how much does it contribute to global/state problems, it contributes alot, and like I say, the there are reasons the system is divided into two. It's a propaganda trick as it helps to create a "common enemy". You must hate the Left because they support NAMBLA or you must hate the right because they're racist. It keeps people arguing, distracted and chasing after one and another. It's a good way to dehumanise someone. It makes it easier to brainwash people into not looking into policies. It makes it easier for people who get their thinking from propaganda. It makes it easier to get people to go along with policies. There's loads of things it does.

Eh, not really surprising, considering I was raised by a Republican parent, but live in a very liberal part of the United States.

I didn’t mean make you think on NA***’s intentions with minors. It’s disgusting, I know. I didn't really explain how it was relevant.
The reason I have this on my mind is because I just found out this group existed a few weeks ago. It’s shocking.

However, if you take a look of what they are asking, you’ll notice that it is not that unreasonable.
Homosexuality is legal. They just want the government to consider the legal age of consent.
The legal age differentiates all over the world. Link
Yet, we deny them their right to propose this reform.

To give you some perspective, imagine if the government, or majority group, sets the age of consent at 30, or until marriage. If you were to disagree with this, and not allowed to say something about it, would you feel that your rights were violated?

Individual's Rights vs. Majority Group

The NA*** case is not that extreme. I do not want to give them reasonable excuses, so only read this. Don’t reply. It makes me uncomfortable to defend them.
I agree with what you said, (except the irrelevancy you mentioned of the group mentioned above) and I can clearly see your stand in politics, I feel the same way.

Edit: I made a horrible mistake. Added not. It makes a huge difference.

Exactly where i thought I was.

And why is everyone on here on the left?
Because some of the questions are retarded and one-sided.

Opinion 1: If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations.

Opinion 2: I'd always support my country, whether it was right or wrong.

What is this? In my opinion, anyone would rather a corporation serve them, than the opposite. And serve HUMANITY? Who would turn this stuff down?

I cannot imagine anyone supporting ideas they knew were completely wrong.
-----------

I'm a capitalist, but to me these types of "questions" pretty much make no sense.

Anyway, my compass:

I constantly score near M. Gandhi and the Dalai Lama, which is good, because at least I am consistent (and have been for years...).

Meh. At least being a centrist means I can laugh at any of the idiots in power in my nation and not be a hypocrite. B3

You make a good point. Some of these questions needed a both option.
