Hacking The origin of SaveMiiFree?

Does anybody know who discovered how to enter Recovery Mode without a SaveMii dongle (aka SaveMiiFree)? It's something I've wondered for a long time, but I could never find an answer.

I believe the Hackmii team found it themselves and just created the product, other than that I am not too sure of the story.
Doing some research, there were some posts a while back about SaveMii, but they didn't explain any of its history.

SaveMiiFrii was then found, which is basically using a GameCube remote to accomplish the same task that SaveMii did, however it was free. There were two ways to enter the recovery mode, and they only knew of one at the time, which marcan explained in his post.

I understand what it is, but I still haven't found a single mention of who discovered the method with the GC controller.

marcan mentioned in the post linked above that it was the wiinja chip "guy" (i'm guessing some arbitrary member of the wiinja chip team) that posted about it, so presumably it was that team that figured it out and announced it publicly? (team twiizers apparently figured it out too but kept it secret in an attempt to recoup the costs of having SaveMiis manufactured; understandable, even if you don't consider it "right" or whatever)

Oh, and for the record, I don't think what they did was wrong. They were under no obligation to share the info about an alternative, and a SaveMii dongle is more useful than SaveMiiFrii.
