I just got my MiG Switch today after ordering it in January. However, I come here because things may be slightly more complex than I was given the impression of by certain news sites and what have you.
The primary thing I'm looking to do is to backup my Switch save files to my PC. Would this be possible with MiG Switch? Can I possibly launch homebrew software/firmware with the MiG Switch, or should I shift gears to installing a modchip?

If your console is Modded you can use their Homebrew app or the NXDumpTool to dump YOUR ORIGINAL CARTRIDGES you don't need MIG for dump, but if your console IS NOT modded YOU WILL NEED the USB Dumper.
I can double check and confirm later on if someone is able to assist me with getting hacbuild to not claim its own file causing it to error out ha
I wanted to try romhacks from my backups too but I can only get a weird 64kb XCI which defiantly ain’t right

Here is a little batch script to help manage your dumped libraries. It should automatically take each parent folder and put it in 7z file(7zip required) with the highest compression level and automatically move the finished file to your specified directory. It saved me over 120gb when all was said and done. I've even set up my folder structure so that I can just extract these 7s files to my SD card directly.
There is an odd bug however where sometimes it will try and zip up the rest of the folders altogether, fail at 100% and than continue on as normal from where it was supposed too. I have ZERO idea on why but it still works in the end
Code:
@echo off
setlocal enabledelayedexpansion
for /d %%X in (*) do (
"c:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a "%%X.7z" "%%X\"
move "%%X.7z" "C:\Roms\Switch\Games\MIG\7Z"
)
endlocal
pause

That's is only possible with a modded console and using, TegraExplorer, JKSV, DBI or Goldleaf.
Ok thanks for the clarification. I will have a search to see if I can find anything. I am on a plane on Saturday so would be good to have something to play whilst I'm on it!

I would suggest if you use those community shared files, to stay offline though. You don't want to get your Switch banned. (We don't know yet if that will cause a ban or not.)
Thanks for this also. I will do so. I have three different switches so will just use one permanently offline.

OK so I have the BIN files and the folder. Can I use my American XCI file with the bin files from Baidu? Do I just rename the XCI to exactly the same as the BIN files?

OK then someone has been kind enough to send me one game which is working. At least I have something to do tomorrow!
i bought one to back up games that I already own. Because I have little brothers and nephews that get the switch when I am not home so, games dont get lost misplaced damaged, ect
I still do not get how they didn't take use of the power of the integrated esp32 processor and put a near touch sensor at top of cartridge, and/or use a remote button.
After all the effort that put on the development of the device that last tinny step was the less to do.

I agree it seems like a very silly step to stop at. Especially since they can’t even meet production demand anyway so what was the big rush
That being said they are already getting hella lazy with scratching off the SoCs so hopefully we get a better Chinese version sometime soon. I can’t imagine it would take long
